Singer Aaron Lewis irked his already-rowdy audience on Saturday when he implied that Spanish speakers are un-American, then walked off the stage and ended his concert early.

quote:

The 46-year-old former Staind frontman grew visibly irritated when the crowd at his Pharr, Texas, show wouldn't stop talking. Video footage obtained by TMZ shows a smoking Lewis scolding the fans who'd paid to see him, telling them, "I'm only going to wait for so long and then I'm just going to say goodnight."

quote:

"I don't understand what you're not getting," he lectured the audience, who were alternately yelling out and yelling at one another to be quiet. "I know I have a microphone so you can hear me. You're not going to hear the song unless it gets quiet. Do you get it?" A fan then asked Lewis to sing something in Spanish, to which he replied, "I'm sorry, I don't know how to speak Spanish. I'm an American."

quote:

The crowd keeps yelling, and after about a total of two minutes, Lewis calmly rises off of his stool, places his guitar down and tells them, "Thank you very much. Have a great night." A rep for Lewis did not immediately return Fox News' request for comment.

It appears the Lewis has a low tolerance for yappers in the audience that won't shut up. We've all sat next to these folks at concerts in the past. Sucks for those that were being quiet and paid good money to see him perform.

Lewis is my 2nd favorite artist next to Stapleton. He puts on a hell of a show (when the crowd doesn't interrupt him) for those that haven't seen him live.

He used to be the front man for Staind and has also done some vocals for Linkin Park. The range of his voice is insane.

Dude is as woke and "American" as they come.

Wouldn't have phrased it like that, but I agree with his annoyance at a crowd that won't pipe down if he's there to perform for them.

Staind sucks and more than 1 in 10 Americans speak Spanish. His insult didn't even make sense. Sounds like quite the snowflake.

maybe so, but this sounds crappy

he got paid to do a show; if people talk in the audience, that does not relieve him from his obligation to perform

seems like he owes people some refunds

Concert crowds are supposed to be quiet and not make noise? Is this a country thing?

Why can't entertainers just entertain and collect a paycheck?

Well....Most Americans don't know how to speak Spanish. This doesn't mean he has something against people who do.

Is he too TOXIC?????

I don’t sense any great insult in the Spanish comment. He just seems visibly irritated with the overall noise and that was just part of it.

What does the ability to speak Spanish have to do with being an American? Dumb comment.

I'm a big fan of Staind and Aaron Lewis. He is immensely talented. I'm not offended by the "I speak English" line. However, people paid to hear him, and I don't agree with walking off stage because they won't be completely silent. What he should have done is just play through it and let the audience take care of the noise makers. Not his problem. He gets paid to play and sing, and he owes those who paid to see him to do that regardless of background noise. Just my 2 cents....

Don’t know who this is but he sounds like a dick. The audience paid to have a show and he flakes out. Should give the ticket money back.

Stapleton and Lewis are both great. The songs feel real. Can't say that for many country artist now. Stapleton is quickly rising into my ten favorite country artist ever honestly. Not sure who I'd move out.

Hank Jr
Waylon
Cash
Hank 3
Strait
Brooks
Paisley(I know pop..but he is funny as shite and Harlon remake is one of my favorite songs ever)
Keith
Coe

BamaRep gonna BamaRep. Typical disingenuous thread title.

"Singer Aaron Lewis walks off stage because crowd will not shut up." Good for Lewis.

The whole Spanish language reference is utterly irrelevant to his decision to end the concert.

As an aside, I wonder what type of "concert" this was. A couple of years ago, I attended an acoustic thing with Cody Canada, where he had a similar problem. It was basically a catered meal, followed by the acoustic set, and one table just would NOT stop talking and listen after dinner. Canada said something off-hand and very politely a couple of times, but they did not seem to get it. Another guy and I went over and explained the matter a bit more explicitly. They shut up, and the rest of the evening was great.

Everyone I know who's ever done sound at one of his concerts says he's one of the biggest douchebags on the planet, so it makes sense that you would think he's woke and that you love him so much.

Was it a small venue?

If it was a decent sized audience, it comes off like Tiger Woods not being able to hit a stationary ball off a tee if a camera shutters

Saw him Friday night in Galveston ... he was very tolerant of the audience. Took requests and everything. The audience knew when to STFU though and let him play. It works both ways.

He now does all acoustic sets. I saw him at Beau Rivage last year he was getting on people there too.
