No matter what. Once you're in, you're in for life (according to the Church at least).

Sure, you can no longer attend church, or even become an atheists or Satanist, but the Church still counts you among its ranks.

Just an FYI.

For me at least, they can count me all they won't, but I'll just be sleeping in on Sundays from here on out.

He doesn't say the Church can't excommunicate you.

More meaning there are no divorce papers to sign when someone says they've stopped being Catholic.

You can be excommunicated. It’s reserved for serious violations of policy.

lol. That's not true.

You can leave the church by writing a letter to your bishop alerting him you are leaving.

With the rate that others are choosing to do the same, it absolutely will show them. It's a business after all, and businesses need money, or offerings.

People need to read the link. Excommunication doesn't mean the church doesn't consider the person a catholic anymore.

quote:

The first is the mistaken idea that, upon excommunication, a “person is no longer a member of the Catholic Church.” Actually an excommunicated Catholic is still a Catholic in rather the same way that a convicted felon is still a citizen. An excommunicated Catholic is simply (sadly, but simply) a Catholic who is excommunicated.

So they lie about who is actually in the church? Doesn't seem like a very Christian thing to do.
