Are there any common foods/dishes that you’ve never cooked?

The lamb thread got me thinking. I’ve eaten lamb all across the globe. But I have never personally cooked lamb. Been to homes/camps etc where it was cooked and have done prep work but I’ve never been responsible for cooking it.

I’ve also never fried chicken. Like real fried chicken. I’ve fried wings, strips, boneless breasts. But I’ve never broken down a chicken and fried whole pieces. Plan on doing it soon.

I've only fried chicken a couple of time because it makes a complete mess. I'm a bit of a messy cook to begin with though.

I've never made pot roast or meatloaf because I don't really like either.

I've never smoked anything.

I need to remedy that eventually.

To my knowledge I’ve never made a grilled cheese sandwich. Made plenty of hot ham and cheese and the like. I just can’t help thinking how much better grilled chese would be with some meat on it.

I’ve never made a potato salad with the mayo and mustard. I’ve made German potato salads. They have bacon

Salmon looks like Forrest Gump after year 3 of running across the country. He’s smoked things before.

Hundreds.

Scallop frittatas comes to mind. Ham and cheese soufflé. Home made tatertots. The list goes on and on.

Seriously - Crawfish Cornbread. Sounds so good to me.

fried chicken

I’ve never attempted bone in chicken, and only fried breasts for sandwiches and such a few times. Growing up my mom (great cook) rarely fried chicken either. I figured there are so many places around LA that have fantastic fried chicken that you aren’t really forced into figuring it out. It’s like opposite of gumbo.

I was hesitant to try to cook lamb for some reason, butI finally got around to it, and it wasn't as daunting as I feared.

Lamb shoulder roast, leg of lamb, etc., all came out fine. Lamb chops on the grill, correctly marinaded are quick and easy.

So are lamb burgers.

Born and raised in lower Lafourche Parish and for some reason have never cooked a seafood gumbo. Have cooked everything else that would be considered common or local or ethnic just never a seafood gumbo. Don’t know why, I love to eat it.
