I can’t remember the exact poster name but some guy was bragging about going skiing around New Years since he didn’t have to go to work. Sounded fun.
Any update?

I know someone who's in Barbados, she's really hurting. She hardly works as it is.

And here we were being told that thousands will be unable to pay their rent, will have no money to buy food, will have their cars repossessed.

I mean there are certainly some in the 800,000 living paycheck to paycheck that are definitely hurting but hey, sub 4% unemployment rate they could be working somewhere tomorrow if they are as smart, charismatic and hard working as I'm suuuuure they are.....

The only person I know who is off of work has been getting hammered in different spots around DC for a month now so he's good. Still MAGA.

That's almost what I'm doing, except I'm a file clerk at a medical clinic

The “essential” employees who have been called in and continue to work each day (Coast Guard, Air Traffic Controllers, Boarder Guard) should get their paychecks since they can’t get another job. I don’t think anyone can argue they want those three groups to stop work tomorrow.

But that would take effort so it may be easier to stay home and have a pity party. In all fairness, I have seen postings from furloughed people who are decluttering their homes and selling stuff on craigslist, local lists, etc., others offering their services as personal organizers, concierge service providers, etc. Good ol' American ingenuity and creativity would come in handy here if it hadn't already nearly disappeared.

I have a friend that is a border agent and he has to work and isn't getting paid. He said him and his co workers fully support the shutdown. Anything to get the wall built. No he doesn't think a wall will stop everything but like he said it is another tool in their toolbox.

What is stopping anyone from getting another job? Especially in the private sector.

My wife and I are both contractors that are furloughed. Feb 2 is the day my wife’s company runs out of money to pay employees (she’s been managing with decreased hours), and I’m working decreased hours at another facility. Scraped up a bit of work from my previous job, but they have furloughed employees as well. This week I’m driving 2 hours, round trip, to work 4 a day.
Hopefully we can keep getting paid something.

The Coast Guard is not getting paid however they could literally go to jail if they don’t show up (UCMJ). They just can’t get another job.

Probably better than if they were working with all of the free shite people are giving them.

bullshite, proud Americans want a fair day’s pay for a fair day’s work. Don’t say Coast Guardsmen and Boarder Agents are happy living on handouts.

You know, when times get tough in business for whatever reason, workers in the private sector usually get a second or another temporary job to pay the bills and make due til things come back again.
I realize public bureaucrats will probably find such a notion to be abhorrent but that’s what usually happens in the real world.

You do realize they will get paid for every hour worked, right?
