TSA walkout would be illegal but would end the shutdown quickly.

Why would it end the shutdown quickly?

Private security firms couldn't provide the same function?

a) how are you going to pay them?
b) they would need security clearance and training

the tsa is going to end up privatized if they're not careful.

I think they would lose their jobs. Fed jobs are golden. Most wont risk it.

You mean contracted out? The Fed gov would probably still have the accountability role and write a shitty contract that costs way too much and underperforms like usual.

Not sure that’s a win.

a)The airport/airlines can hire them. Like the ones that have private security now, and like it was done before.

b)why do they need a security clearance? There are no classified areas in a civilian airport. And training? Really? It's a security guard.

Yeah, America just might MAGA if the government stays shut down long enough.

Can Trump call out the National Guard to handle it or is that something only a Governor of the State can do?

I am not sure rising plane fares to pay for private security and taxes staying the same is the answer.

Should passengers be vetted before air travel?

Not in the long term, no. Long term though is keep the private firms, lower taxes, and abolish one of the most useless gov agencies ever conceived.

I love this idea.

It won't happen in my lifetime.

Crisis and Leviathan.

The TSA, and to a larger extent the Patriot Act, are textbook examples.

Can you imagine the chaos if TSA walks out? They would either have to cancel all air travel or conduct air travel without adequate security until a contract was written, solicited, bids were generated, selection occurred, and the winning better hired staff.

If they elected to conduct air travel without appropriate security and something got through and took down a plane, chaos would ensue.

If this doesn’t end, the Atlanta Super Bowl is going to get interesting. Tremendous amount of work placed on unpaid government workers to make it all work.
