Damn...all the great ones will no longer call the game. Hate the Reds, but enjoy Marty on the air.

There is nothing like me and fellow Cub fans taking over GABP and yelling “Let’s Go Cubbies”..clap...clap...clap.

Marty is and has always been great.

Wish I could say the same for the reds.

As a native Cincinnati resident, I for the life of me can not understand why so many Cubs fans beat their chest about this.

I’ve heard it from countless other people. Chicago is like 5 times bigger than Cincinnati, and the Cubs are a national brand like the Yankees that have a lot of remote fans throughout the country. It’s not really a surprise that there are a lot of Cubs fans at GABP when they come to town.

Eta: and back in the early 2010’s when the Reds were good and the Cubs were shite, this wasn’t even really the case anyway

I know he did the call for Fox in the famous Boise-Oklahoma game. Didn’t he call the LSU-Ohio State natty as well?

Thom is the one who had a meltdown about cubs fan cheering in Cinci recently. He used to be the 3rd Chicago announcer that would let Harry Carey do innings of radio during the TV games.

Became a Reds fan here in Mississippi as a youngster growing up in the late 70’s not only because the Reds were dominating and had a cool logo, but also because I could pick up 700 WLW and listen to the Reds on the radio with Marty and Joe. Another part of my youth is about to be gone. Oh joy.

Yeah, I remember from like 2010-2014 the Reds were 60-28 against the stupid Cubs. Reds won like 12 straight series at Wrigley. Frick the fricking Cubs.

Countless nights spent listening to Reds on radio w Marty and Joe in the 70’s and 80’s with games in TV being a rarity.

He was an irascible SOB and would call it like he saw it.

Reds were in San Diego for game that Roseann Barr sang National Anthem...Marty’s initial response: ‘She Oughta be shot.’

I remember Marty’s call on Roseanne. That was during the 90 World Championship Season. Classic. I always like the attendance being announced as a “Titanic Struggle”. I’ll miss ol’ Marty.

Yeah, WLW comes in pretty strong here too at night. I listened to a few Reds games too with him on the call. Many will miss him, but he’s certainly earned his stripes.

I grew up listening to Marty and Joe on The Big One, 700 WLW. Been a Reds fan all my life. Enjoy your retirement, Marty, and thanks for the great memories. “And This One Belongs To The Reds!”

There aren't many people who were as good at actually calling a baseball game as Marty. I'll always remember his call of Jay Bruce's walk-off to clinch the NL Central in 2010. Unfortunately, as he got older, he became way too negative and complained way too much about everything. I'll miss his calls, but it was time for him to retire.

It'd be nice if Thom left, too.
