re: Fyre Fraud Documentary - Hulu and Netflix. Fyre Festival Scam

the Netflix one was better put together. Both had different focuses, Netflix was more about the total chaos and cluster frick of the whole thing
the only thing Hulu did better was provide some better background info and interviewed Billy, but it felt kind of disjointed and jumped around a lot

That’s a good description of the Hulu documentary. I felt like they stretched out source material for something that may have been interesting for 30 minutes. I can watch a two hour documentary about financial fraud or something that needs that kind of time to unwrap, this was just straight forward fraud of a bunch of idiots

I want a follow up about the Russian model gf of Billy.
Is she still dating him?
What is funny is she didn’t even know who he was in regards to Fyre Festival until after they had already been dating. Yet still choose to stay with him. Billy is a masterful liar for sure.

Haven't seen the Hulu one but that would have been really helpful in the Netflix one...for those not into the party scene in NYC among Millenials...who the frick is this guy and what exactly was the company about?
A steel credit card...for what? What was the entire company about - access to shitty acts and parties? Was it a status symbol, look I'm cool among people my age? I will spend thousands to say I was at a party that people tweeted about.
What the hell was this guy offering beyond parties that were marketed as some status symbol?
All the party-goers could have booked a room at Sandals on the same fricking Island but they had to be at the Fyre festival because Kendall Jenner said to all her followers how cool it was and look at the models.
If you follow Kendal Jenner on Twitter, I have no sympathy for you. Because those are the twits and twats that bought tickets for this phony event...people who follow Kendall Jenner on Twitter.

Well, the Netflix one was produced in part by frick Jerry, the marketing company behind the entire Fyre Festival. So they had access to much more footage since they were there through it all. They also attempt to lessen the impact of their involvement in the whole thing.
I do agree the Hulu one seems a little rough around the edges and more lighthearted but they seemed to do a better job of covering McFarland's background and more of the impact that each party involved had leading up to it.

I think that was Magnum Rolle’s Mom. He was from the Bahamas. The lady from the restaurant

I am sure pigs love beer. I know cows do. Probably a tacky thing to do but it’s not some capital crime.
The spent grains of beer has been livestock feed for as long as booze as been made

Negative. Rolle is one of the most common names in the Bahamas, but these Rolles are from Exuma - not Grand Bahama (where Magnum is from). Not that I'm discrediting MaryAnne Rolle's version of the events/her GoFundMe, or accusing her of manipulation, but I would be very surprised to find that her and her husband (Elvis Rolle) are hurting. Elvis owns a number of businesses on the island, and comparatively, he does very well. Exuma Point (their restaurant) is just one of their interests, and they're known on the island for being very successful.
To the point, I haven't watched the Hulu documentary, but I watched the Netflix version and thought it was great. For clarity, Exuma is not a "remote" island in any sense of the word, especially from Bahamas perspective. It is an "out island" by description, but there is infrastructure on the island, though perhaps not sufficient to establish a music festival of that scale on such short notice. It's also one of the only out islands that you can fly directly into from the US. There are plenty tourist amenities and numerous hotels, but it's hilarious that they tried to set the festival up on the same weekend as the Regatta.
Things that require importing into the Bahamas are very expensive, and labor is very inconsistent. Everything kinda operates on its own time down there, so the idea that McFarland and Ja Rule came up with in and of itself goes to show how much they lacked understanding of how things worked there.
Another thing to note is that the location of the festival site was basically a microcosm of the entire disaster. That particular location is a failed real estate development. There are literally hundreds of these throughout the Bahamas, because developers underestimate the cost of importing building materials and the unreliability of local labor in the planning stages of development. So, the projects run out of money and the developers basically abandon them. I'm surprised that the Bahamas Investment Authority has not attempted to regulate development more strongly over the years, but I suppose it's just difficult to turn away foreign direct investment in a relatively undeveloped nation.
Another funny nugget of irony/info is that the Fyre festival site is literally less than a mile away from a Sandals, which is probably the biggest employer/economic stimulus of the entire island

It was shocking to me that nobody involved with the process aggressively approached McFarland about shutting the project down because of fraud concerns. Especially the guy that was sent to get the water released. I also was confused as to why McFarland continued to have himself filmed after the fact setting up an entirely different scheme. Awful stupid for a human capable of such large scale manipulation. I want to watch the Hulu version now to see the interviews and see just how involved Jerry Media was.

IIRC, that guy had known Billy for awhile and generally thought of him well. Billy did a good job of making himself appear legit to the outside world.
I think the people that were close to Billy / worked for Fyre were all just caught up in the startup mentality. A lot of startups are very cultlike in the initial stages and people follow their leaders not always seeing the big picture. Most of them are young and really don't know right from wrong or have the balls to really standup to their bosses.
Billy also did a "good" job of keeping the people who were marketing the festival away from the operations side of it so that word didn't really get out just how big of a mess it was going to be

There is literally an area of the island known as "Rolle Town". Rolle is definitely a big name down there.
