There is literally an area of the island known as "Rolle Town". Rolle is definitely a big name down there.

Indeed . I think you know from the OB that I frequent the area a good bit, but I think every island I've traveled to has had a "Rolleville" or "Rolletown." Great Exuma actually has both hah.

IIRC, that guy had known Billy for awhile and generally thought of him well. Billy did a good job of making himself appear legit to the outside world.

I think the people that were close to Billy / worked for Fyre were all just caught up in the startup mentality. A lot of startups are very cultlike in the initial stages and people follow their leaders not always seeing the big picture. Most of them are young and really don't know right from wrong or have the balls to really standup to their bosses.

Billy also did a "good" job of keeping the people who were marketing the festival away from the operations side of it so that word didn't really get out just how big of a mess it was going to be

This may be a generational thing, but the taboo surrounding asking people where their money/capital is coming from should stop as soon as business is involved. It's like they were afraid to ask Billy how he was just randomly showing back up to the island with millions of dollars in cash.

It was also shocking to me that someone as sophisticated as Carola Jain got hooked into the whole scheme. Her husband was literally the head of Credit Suisse's asset management division and he's a very well-regarded hedge fund manager.

I’ve only watched the Netflix version and did so last night.

I thought it was a hilarious spotlight on the vapidity of large subsets of our current culture.

I found it to be a metaphor for the Facebook/Instagram cultural era as in what was put forth leading up to event looked amazing and perfect when the reality behind it was a dysfunctional disaster.

That’s what I think when I see all of these people that try to present their lives as so great on social media.

I agree. But at the same time people have been screwing people over or getting screwed over since forever. Now we just get to literally see it happen

but I would be very surprised to find that her and her husband (Elvis Rolle) are hurting. Elvis owns a number of businesses on the island, and comparatively, he does very well. Exuma Point (their restaurant) is just one of their interests, and they're known on the island for being very successful.

that'd be unfortunate if she turns out to be a scammer

I also was confused as to why McFarland continued to have himself filmed after the fact setting up an entirely different scheme

yeah I mean as bold/stupid as it was to start another scam while on probation but man to actually want to film it? I have no words.

GTFO with your old balls yelling at clouds.

Con artists that try to fake it till they make it while tossing aside anyone who warns them of reality are a dime a dozen throughout history.

I watched the Netflix one first then the Hulu.

I agree the Hulu was better since you got the interview and more of the inner thinking.
The netflix had more info on the Bahamas side though.

I remember following this thing. fricking Ja Rule. Lol
Hulu gets extra points for the Chappelle scene. "Man no one gives a frick what Ja Rule thinks"

Lastly, I think the guy sucked the cock. Lol crazy story

There are a lot of people who like to show off having a heavy credit card.
It plinks when it hits the table.
Lol.

A steel credit card...for what? What was the entire company about - access to shitty acts and parties? Was it a status symbol, look I'm cool among people my age? I will spend thousands to say I was at a party that people tweeted about. What the hell was this guy offering beyond parties that were marketed as some status symbol?

I haven’t actually looked it up outside of the docs, but as I understood it, it wasn’t even a real credit card by yourself, but it “piggybacked” off of your card. So, basically, you were paying them $250 a year to clone your credit card and put the strip on a piece of sheet metal. And then they let you hang out with a bunch of guidos in a condo.
