Spoiler Alert - Tony Soprano was Killed

Ever since The Sopranos' enigmatic final scene aired in 2007, fans have been debating what happened after that abrupt cut to black. Some argue the sudden end (and the stuff leading up to it) means mob boss Tony Soprano (James Gandolfini) was whacked, while others haven't stopped believin' that Tony is still alive.
quote:
There's a mountain of evidence to suggest Tony was killed in Holsten's diner by the man in the Members Only jacket, and in a new interview, creator David Chase — whose official stance is that he doesn't know what happened to Tony — may have slipped his tongue and given more proof that Tony got whacked.
quote:
In an interview with TV critics Matt Zoller Seitz and Alan Sepinwall for their book The Sopranos Sessions commemorating the 20th anniversary of the epochal HBO series' premiere, Chase refers to "the death scene."
Here's the quote:
Sepinwall: When you said there was an end point, you don't mean Tony at Holsten's, you just meant, "I think I have two more years' worth of stories left in me."
Chase: Yes, I think I had that death scene around two years before the end ... Tony was going to get called to a meeting with Johnny Sack in Manhattan, and he was going to go back through the Lincoln Tunnel for this meeting, and it was going to go black there and you never saw him again as he was heading back, the theory being that something bad happens to him at the meeting. But we didn't do that.
Seitz: You realize, of course, that you just referred to that as a death scene.
[A long pause follows]
Chase: F--- you guys.
So there you have it. RIP Tony Soprano.

They were setting up Tony's death for a while.
While Bobby and Tony are fishing, Bobby remarks:
Also Sil made similar statements about the dinner where the guy he was eating with got shot.
Seems pretty obvious to me he got smoked right in front of his whole family, with Meadow coming through the door just in time to see it happen. Pretty terrible.

You put "Spoiler Alert" in the thread title, and then spoiled in the same thread title.

Isn't he referring to the hypothetical Lincoln tunnel scene and not the actual final scene that they shot?

It's like we don't even have a movie and TV board.

They even talked about this in the boat seen with Bobby speculating on how wise guys find their end. Either in prison or dead.
"When your day comes, you probably won't even see it. Everything will just go black" or something like that.

Same still goes. The idea was a smash cut to black without an answer, with the idea being that Tony died and thus the story ended.
Chase’s reaction to realizing he said “death scene” is as telling as anything.
As far as things go, it isn’t really too much of a surprise. As mentioned upthread, there were a lot of crumbs dropped through the series about things just going to black and never seeing the guy who ends up killing you.

What year is it?
Not sure. It always keeps changing.
But the news is celebrating the 20th anniversary of the Sopranos so there is reason to bring this up. Lots of Soprano talk recently. Deservedly so

Unless the creator of the story actually wrote (created) the death, then the death didn’t occur.
He could have had in his mind that the final scene was the instant Tony died, but if he didn’t write that down, it’s not part of the story.
The story just ends, and nobody can know what happened after that, because nothing happened after that.

Tony died, everybody knows he dies, Chase tried to play coy for years because he liked the attention and playing with fans. Looking back on the ending I like it, I liked an explanation I read that the whole run of the show was from Tony's POV or involved Tony, even if he wasn't in the scene. So when Tony dies, the show just stops, or goes black.

I thought that the Sicilian Mafia didn't wack a man in front of his family. So, not dead.

Never put a spoiler in the thread title, no matter how long the shows has been out.
Have you watched every show out there?

It was eye for an eye. Tony's crew whacked Phil in front of his wife and grandkids.
