If you can’t succeed at LSU you shouldn’t be in college, anywhere
LSU is so easy
LSU is so easy

It’s completely unfair to the students who got admitted. They may have succeeded at other universities.
Admitting them to LSU does them no favors.
Honestly, if you can’t survive freshman year at LSU, you shouldn’t be in college. With very few exceptions, freshmen year is bullshite intro classes and electives.
If they can’t survive the first year they’d be absolutely slaughtered by core classes.

King is the worst thing to happen to LSU since Hurricane Katrina.

Next will be a move to Holistic Grading. Problem solved!
i was coming to post this
the Ivy League schools who started these policies fixed the issue by creating insane grade inflation where everyone passes with above a 3.3 or something

been arguing this for years
but by college it's not a big deal. if you want to be separate from the masses, it's not difficult
and if you want to slum it, you can always take an elective psychology or sociology class

Pure gold. I tell my wife this exact same thing about social media. No one has to qualify themselves on a subject before spewing anything that pops in their mind. Soon after one idiot posts something and another gullible idiot latches on, it exponentially grows into a movement, and then it has to be answered and refuted by people with factual knowledge on the subject and voila the entire community is inundated with the subject from media outlets. All because someone’s stupid cousin that normally gets ignored at thanksgiving dinner because the family knows they’re an idiot, posted something on social media and no one questions credibility.

I am shocked by this news, and by shocked I mean bored and not surprised.

The grade point averages for those students, which averaged 2.0, lagged behind the 41,580 students who met the minimum standards and ended the first term with an average 2.7 percent..
That's a massive gap.
But hey. At least they admitted more minorities so we can pat ourselves on the back. I'm sure F King's solution will just be to throw $ at the problem.

F King and his ilk will look at all of this and say...
"See!!! Look at all those "exception" students that graduated and have a better life now! If we touch just one kid, it's worth it. Nevermind all the ones we screwed over... it was their decision to attend anyways!!"
Also, when do we talk about the parents, who allow their child to attend a school that they are obviously not qualified to attend? They are doing the real damage by not being honest with their kid.

If this is the type of shite you can muster in HS, getting a 4 year degree is a total waste of time.
Learn a trade.

Looking at students admitted in the Fall of 2016 and 2017, the Regents determined that 2,315 freshmen failed to meet one of the minimum admissions criteria set by the Regents.
That is outrageous and uncalled for. As a Louisiana taxpayer, I'm livid. An average of 1,157 freshman each of those years were admitted without meeting the minimum requirements set by the Board of Regents. Y'all, seriously... that number is MORE than DOUBLE what is usually allowed to LSU by the BoR.

A) these numbers are across the entire higher Ed system in LA, not just LSU A&M.
B)
Every bit of this is pathetic. When half your students meeting the minimums aren't graduating in 6 years, the system is an abject failure for tax payers and students/families. The only people benefitting are university admins and employees.

About two-thirds of those admitted by exception in 2016 returned for classes in 2017, compared to 82 percent of the regular admitted students. And 32 percent of the exception students from 2010 and 2011 graduated in six years while half of the regular admitted students did, according to the report.

God damn only 50% graduate in 6? That’s pathetic. This is further proof to me that college is not for everyone and needs to be much more difficult in terms of admissions and academic rigor once there. College should be for elite academic performers. Not everyone who manages to barely pass fricking highschool

LSU admitted 577 exception students in 2016 and 2017 combined.

In the controversy that ensued, LSU President F. King Alexander reported that the flagship campus in Baton Rouge had admitted almost twice as many exception students as allowed by the Regents. In setting the criteria in 2001.
Saban took over as LSU head coach in 2000. Since then, the school has enjoyed unprecedented success in football. Wonder if this policy change had anything to do with that?
Tulane BBall fans have always said that if they could recruit the local High School they could compete nationally but the pesky academic standards get in the way.
