Bigjlaw: you need to learn context in your response post. Past admins certainly stressed border security and walls have been built in the past. Now is now and then was then and the isues and crises have changed and have been addressed. There does need to be greater security...no question.
The problem is what trump is selling is snake oil and he has zero credibility. If he was not such a lying prick the wall would be built as needed. His fault. His ego.

Those two statements don't agree. It's like saying "I'm going to drive to Canada" vs "There are several ways to get to Canada, and we are going to get there one way or another."
Read the link that you posted. It mentions other means. Nowhere does it say "Mexico will write the U.S. a check for the wall."

"Contribute Funds" = Paying. Maybe a wire transfer. Keep trying to rationalize the fact that Trump's supporters were told Mexico would pay for the Wall and it is just another Trump scam.

But you quoted him saying they would write a check, which he didn't. So you are a liar and are intentionally misleading the board. You have no credibility to speak on the subject any longer. You claim its a Trump scam while attempting to perpetrate a scam of your own! The irony is so rich. Of course the reality is that it matters not one bit of Mexico pays for it or not, so what if he couldn't achieve that portion of his campaign promises. Adults know that your reach should always exceed your grasp. Although I would not agree that they aren't paying for it somewhere along the line so that argument is moot anyway.
I guess I took a long time explaining what I really mean to say which is, "frick off NPC trash!".

That briefing has been beaten to death here. Of course a direct payment from Mexico was on the table. Did you think we'd turn that money down if they offered it? And you left out the part in the briefing about Visa fees being used to pay for the wall, or the statement the campaign made just a few months later about the El Chapo bill. Both direct and indirect methods were on the table since the beginning. There were even bills brought to the House floor for some of these ideas, but congress is gonna congress.

Nobody - exactly nobody - ever thought Trump was saying Mexico would write out a "pay to the USA wall fund" check.
The wall will pay for itself 100s of times over in reduction of medical/welfare expenditures that will no longer be a drain on the treasury. The Americans who are employed to do the jobs that aliens are now doing will contribute 10 times more to the treasury than the cost of a wall, plus their less reliance on welfare services.
Trade agreements will generate 100s times more $$ for the USA than the cost of a wall and the growth of the economy from that will generate 1000s of times the cost of a wall over time.
The ONLY thing that is bad about a wall find it home in the hit it makes to the DEMOCRAT agenda.
