Shinn has the oak ridge boys as halftime entertainment.

Shinn spent money when he had contending pieces.

By all reports, the Bensons won’t.

Lolwut? The Benson's have spent more willingly than George ever did. Furthermore, they aren't remotely in danger of going bankrupt and missing payroll.

George was broke. Mrs. Gayle is a billionaire. Do we need to go any further here?

It’s well known that the Bensons won’t be a luxury tax team.

Hell the Zach Lowe article today mentions it.

It’s common knowledge. A top 5 player and won’t spend to build a title contender.

Shinn went and signed Posey and Peja to compliment the CCC. He saw the opportunity to build a winner. It didn’t work, but he made a run.

The Bensons aren’t going to do this because the Pels are second on the business flow chart.

They had every intention of having 2 Max players and a $25 million player in Jrue before Boogie got injured. On the record comments from Demps and insider information from people that cover the team say that the Tax policy was the same as pretty much any small market team, they'll pay some level of tax for a contention level team.

To say this thread is insanely dumb even for this board would be an understatement.

The level of cheapness by the Bensons was known around the league. They were laughing stocks. Their GMs would often stay at Motel 6's on scouting trips.

Motel 6.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m know I’m speaking to a bunch of Saints fans who see the Bensons as great benefactors for buying the Pels.

This organization would be better off not playing second fiddle to a football team.

“Cheap” or not, why wouldn’t everyone see them this way

Where, in Seattle? The only other legit local owner candidate was then minority owner Gary Chouest. From the rumors that were circulating at the time he basically had a fixed percentage of his fortune he was willing to dedicate to the team and wouldn't go any more. That's not unreasonable except he wasn't even willing to meet the league's asking price. I seriously doubt he would have spent tens of millions building a new state of the art practice facility like Benson did. Pre Benson the Hornets had to practice at a substandard facility that was out of the way. The Shinn Hornets also used the GM watching YouTube clips in place of a scouting department. It'd be one thing if you were trying to say Benson isn't good enough, but trying to say Shinn was better is just absurd.

Chouest took a hit financially sometime around then as well, I believe.

The Bensons arent spending an extra dime on the Pels.

At least Shinn made one last run.

As far as scouting, I’m with you there...but The Bensons are 3 years behind the cuvre with the GLeague.

A GLeague team would be a tremendous help to a parent squad where money is tight.

But as long as The Bensons are getting $aints dollars the Pels are second in importance.

Maybe it’s time to take on some partners.

Shameless, you can disagree with my take on the Pels, the fanbase etc and that’s fine, but I’ll put my general understanding of the NBA against anyone on this site.

I’ve seen this fanbase turn on nearly every star player that’s come through here all while demanding a contender and not showing until The Saints finish their season.

It’s been going on for 15 years. To pretend that ownership isn’t to blame(& in this case they are) is to be obtuse.

Thanos, you cant expect a metro area of a measly 1.4 million to support two professional franchises, one with almost no history, meanwhile 40% of people in the metro area are dirt poor. It's not just as simple as apathetic fans. Plus, we've never had a perennial playoff team to get that kind of treatment.

And if the arena were full every night it would be because it's just the popular thing to do, not like it'd be full of actual basketball fans.

An intelligent response. Which begs the question? Is it time for the Pels to move?

15 years in. All-Stars, Playoff series wins(few and far between, but still),MVP level players.

The “wait until football is over” excuse tells me New Orleans isn’t worthy of an NBA team.

I’ll follow the NBA with or without the Pels in NOLA, like have for most of my life(mid 30s).

New Orleans has an incredible talent playing in front of them for years now and it doesn’t matter to them. They don’t appreciate it.
Part of that is on ownership.
