The answer to all your problems

I pepper the frick out of them with a BB gun when I see them.
I even got 2 cats this winter, and I fricking HATE cats. Lazy fricks just watch the squirrels and make weird noises.
I've tried cayenne pepper and cut hair spread around. Nothing works.
This may be the last year I try sweet corn. It is the only thing in the garden they frick with.

This is a really dumb question: When do you harvest carrots? My wife and daughter planted seeds and they were forgotten about. Of course wife cant remember when. In fact I planted squash right next to them because I didnt know. The carrots stalks are over 12" high now and surprisingly doing well under shade of squash leaves.
Do I just pull one to check and replant if not ready?

If the crown of the carrot is about 1.5 to 2 inches, pull it.
You can over winter them, but once the ground warms up they will rot if you leave them in the ground.

If you live somewhere that you can’t shoot a 22 then look into a good pellet gun.
None of that break barrel shite, they’re inaccurate as Brandon Harris.
Go buy a good Benjamin. It’ll easily kill squirrels. If you don’t kill them they won’t leave, especially when they have an easy food source like a garden

Thanks. May be the last resort and may get some good jambalaya out of it.
Have to hide it from the wife though.

Mine bitched at me until I convinced her that A) they’re the reason our yard was infested with fleas and
B) they’re eating the shite out of our garden.
She went and bought me a box of 22 shells the next day. Now it’s open season

I down voted your inaccurate statement.
I have an RWS break barrel that is extremely accurate.
But I just bought a Ruger precision rimfire that I have a silencer on it and with subs it’s stupid quiet (much more so than the pellet gun) and I can hit a starling in the head at 25+yds.

I was able to let my first tomatoes ripen on the vine for the first time since I moved to Texas. I picked a few bumble bee purple and juliet cherries this afternoon.
frick you, birds!!! I won this round!!! Although, they will eventually find a way through my net... Those sons of bitches always find a way.

Maybe I just buy cheap shite idk but I’ve yet to find a more accurate pellet gun than a good ole pump Benjamin.
But I also don’t use them very much. My nearest neighbor is over 3 miles away. My Ruger 10/22 takes care of my pests
ETA: but I mean cmon an RWS? That’s a 3-500 dollar air rifle. You can have a Benjamin for half the price with the same accuracy and all the stopping power necessary to take down a squirrel.
I have yet to find a 100-150 dollar break barrel that shoots worth a frick

It's your call but I pick my tomatoes as soon as I notice they aren't getting much bigger. They will ripen just the same on the counter and I don't have to worry about birds and caterpillars. I've noticed once I started picking too that other smaller tomatoes on the same stem immediately start getting larger, but that could just be coincidence.

Is sevin dust okay on corn and beans. I have a few caterpillars on the corn that I will spray with thurcide but I may have a little bit of some other bug damage and was wondering if sevin will kill caterpillars too? I'd rather do one dust/spray instead of 2 if I can avoid it.

Yep. Sure are.
ETA: hard to tell from the picture, but they are starting to ripen.

This is only my second year doing Romas but I fell in love with them last year

A few pictures from the garden yesterday
Okra...... How do you harvest and at what size do you pick 'em. I've already picked a couple of hands full, washed and froze them then stored in a zip bag.
Tomatoes
Wall of green beans..... This was the old chicken pen.
My 2 and a half year old granddaughter helping me water the garden.

Looking great!
The consensus seems to be when they get about 4-5” and are still soft. Once they get hard (giggity), pas bon.
I’m jealous. I actually pulled my bean plants and sowed more cucumbers. They were 10 feet tall and had thousands of flowers. But after almost 2 months, not a single bean. This is the first time I’ve encountered this and I’m not sure what the problem was.
