Has anyone ever grown the Cherokee Carbon? I've grown the Purples with mixed results.

Same. Never heard of the Cherokee Carbons.
I tried starting some Paul Robeson seeds. Of the 8 seeds planted, 2 sprouted. Of those 2, one died and the other seems to be limping along. If it does start to take off I'm going to put it in a pot. It's been a few years since I've grown any, but I don't remember them being this difficult. Maybe I got a bad batch of seeds. I still have a bunch. I may try again in the fall.

I'm done with the Robesons for a while. I tried the last 2 years and grew huge plants, but very few tomatoes. The Cherokee Carbon is a hybrid between Ch. Purple and a Carbon. I found it at Lowes.

To yall baws who have had success planting citrus, what is your method? I have planted two in the front yard, two years ago, and have yielded two dead trees. My thoughts is that proximity to water oaks may be sucking all the nutrients and water away from them, and also that nuclear winter we had two winters ago. I'd like to try and plant some on the side of my house where i have full sun and there's no water oaks. I guess dig a hole twice the size of the root ball, and then should I fill it in with some store bought top soil? Anything in particular? Or should I container grow for a few years until it gets bigger, then plant? Thanks

The first year I grew Ch Purples they were prolific and delicious. The last couple of years the yields were not as good. This year I planted 1 Ch Carbon. The purchase was accidental, but now I’m intrigued.
I steered away from planting as many heirlooms this year. Celebrity, Bonnie Centennial, Purple, and cherry. Oh, and a couple Bush Goliath.

Well I got all of my tomatoes planted. Everything was looking great until about day 4. I woke up that morning to let the dog out and put her on her lead. When I walked out the back door, I could see she had dug up the first part of the closest row that she could reach.
Killed two plants and made a mess of things. I had to rebuild that part of the row, and buy replacement plants. Then on Saturday, I wake up and dammit she had come close to doing it again.
So for now I've shortened her lead so she can't get back there. Going to build a fence around the plot so when she gets her invisible fence collar, she won't be able to dig in the garden.

I've mentioned the sweet success cucumber variety in here a few times. The only reason I'm so high on it is because it's parthenocarpic and I don't have a lot of bees. I've got two of those in the ground already, but I also planted a couple of pickling varieties from this website:
cucumbers
I planted the Zyatek, Masha, and Aprelskiy. All are parthenocarpic or gynoecious. They take about 10 days to come via mail, but the prices are really good and they definitely gave me more than 20 seeds per pack. Time will tell about production, but I've read a lot about these Ukrainian varieties online and they're supposedly much more disease resistant than standard varieties. Just wanted to share the info in case anybody else was interested.

Check your soil for pH, they want between 5.5 and 6.5 (slightly acid).
Yep, or 3 times the diameter is better. I use a mix of around 1/3 sand (my Panhandle "soil"), 1/3 top soil, 1/3 peat moss. They want a sandy loam.
Fertilize 2 or 3 times a year around the drip line (early March, May, August). I use Espoma Citrus-tone since it won't burn the trees.
Don't spray Roundup anywhere near citrus trees - I learned the hard way. Mine look good for this year, but between a hard freeze and the Roundup incident, it hasn't been an easy life for them. And the deer ate most of the leaves last fall so I now have a deer fence around the garden.
If the leaves get yellowish add some iron.

It's still here. Maybe it got grandfathered?
If it moves over, oh well. We'll see how it goes. But that board is already a cluster f@#%.

Very minor frost last night. Got down to 39 here. I didn’t cover because it was unexpected. Plants seem to be fine though.
