Attended Catholic Church for the first time in a while and it wasn't the same

I haven't been to a catholic mass in a while and have been attending orthodox church. I attended mass with my immediate family this Christmas and after hearing all the news on the catholic church recently it just seemed to strange to me. I kept catching myself looking at the Catholic Church in a different light after all these sexual abuse scandals. For instance, when it came time for collections I couldn't help but think I wonder if they will be using this money to pay off their victims of abuse. Obviously they aren't and I know the church has a whole stands for good but it just wasn't the same this time. Anyone else have this feeling recently?

Cool story man. Please tell us more. I’m intrigued and want to call the family in to read this too

It's a horribly corrupt organization; should be shut down by the federal government.

Idk if every church does this but mine had us say this creed type prayer that seems like the Church’s answer to any question about scandals and stuff. It really made me question everything

Devil works in mysterious ways.
Keep your faith man. God is good.

Wait until you wake up enough to realize that religion isn’t necessary at all. Then you will be on the way to true freedom.

I hadn't been since 05 prior to a Catholic wedding this summer.

It's gotta come from somewhere. I mean, we're talking about ALOT of victims here.

The church stands for power.

It's all bullshite. Your orthodox church is a scam all the same.

It’s an understandable concern but it is possible to follow the church’s teachings while also detesting the handling of sexual abuse cases. I am not Catholic because of any priest, I am because of everything stated in the Nicene Creed.

For all the talk about "the Church" and the bureaucracy of it all (which is big, no doubt), I think it always seems to help to remember that each parish, and each pastor, really is it's own little world.
There are some great, welcoming parishes with great pastors. There are some terrible, snobby parishes with terrible pastors. It's all about finding a fit.
The parish I currently attend, is somewhat smaller than average, but is very open, welcoming, and has a great young pastor. He's in his mid 30s, very traditionalist, and gives a homily that is easy to listen to and easy to relate to. He also isn't afraid to step away from the company line when need be, which has been refreshing to see.
All the sex scandals are terrible and huge news, but they really have nothing to do with the day to day of the church parish.

If you give money to the Catholic Church, you support pedophilia. There’s no way around it.

The Orthodox Church shouldn’t be that different

Not to change the subject or anything, but I’ve never understood people switching between different Christian denominations. They’re all pretty much the same thing.
I am Catholic (more or less), was raised Catholic, and consider myself Catholic (more or less).
In my life I’ve waffled between somewhat regular Mass attendance, to occasional, to long periods of no attendance. I go when I feel like I need to go. And I’m OK with that. The one thing I would never do would be wasting my time switching to another denomination. We all worship the same God. I can see going the atheist or agnostic route, but switching seems like a waste of time.
