White referee forces black wrestler to cut off dreadlocks

A black high school wrestler was told by a white referee that he needed to cut off his dreadlocks or forfeit an important match ... and the whole incident was captured on video
quote:
Andrew Johnson was about to compete for Buena Regional High School in New Jersey -- and was wearing a cover over his dreadlocks ... when referee Alan Maloney stepped in. Maloney told Johnson his hair cover was not sufficient and gave him 2 choices -- chop off the locks or lose the match. Johnson reluctantly chose the haircut -- but you can see he's visibly upset.

Now, it's been revealed the ref has a history of racist behavior -- using a racial slur toward a black man during a social gathering in 2016 ... and getting his arse kicked in the process.

So he forced him by giving him a choice.

I need a quote of the actual rule and a picture of his hair covering.
Thanks.
Thanks.

Agree that the kid wasn't "forced". Need to know if the hair or the hair wrap broke any rules.

I’m sure he is racist
But I also never seen an amateur wrestler with long hair
Lots of cauliflower ears though

Dreadlocks... more like shitlocks

I suppose I can see a swimmers cap (assuming that's the cover) giving a strategic advantage.
What's the rule though?

Our basketball coach in high school forced people to get hair cuts to a certain length. If they didn’t, they weren’t on the team.
I always thought it was odd that doesn’t happen more often now.

Apparently this is all the pertinent information you’re supposed to need in order to make your decision.

Because people are offended if they have to comply with rules or standards

Does braided hair that is non-abrasive need to be contained in a legal hair cover? RULING: If the hair in its natural state is longer than allowed by rule, then it must be contained in a legal hair cover. (4-2-1)

Well this wasn't the answer most of the OT was hoping for.

Next question would be, what is considered a legal hair cover?
Bottom line is, Referee's make mistakes... players keep on playing. I doubt it had anything to with race. And just this ref may have used a racial slur, doesn't mean he is a racist!
This fricking society....

While we don't know what he said, if he dropped the N bomb on a black person then he's a racist.
