The rules say he had to have an approved cover. He had a cover. Was it approved? Either the rules were broken, or they weren't. If they weren't and the kid was made to cut his hair, the ref is screwed.

As a wrestler I hated wrestling anyone with extremely coarse hair unless they wore a hair cover. Imagine rubbing your face on the rough end of Velcro

Further reading shows he called a fellow ref a N. He says he has known that ref since he was 4. Still not OK.

I have been unable to find further info about the covering, or rules that apply.

The rule is the cover must be attached to the headgear. The ref should check it during weigh ins but the wrestler might have just said yeah, I have a cover but it wasn’t right. Then the wrestler got to the mat and he had the wrong cover and was forced to fix the situation.

The cover must be attached or it will constantly fall off creating a stopping point, which is terrible for the flow of a wrestling match.

I am surprised of this from you. You have no basis upon to make such a statement. Unless you know this referee personally.

I need a quote of the actual rule and a picture of his hair covering.

This X 1000. Not nearly enough information to make a judgment. Dreads take years to grow out, why wasn't this a issue before? I don't now jack shite about amateur wrestling but I can't imagine why hair length would have any impact on the match one way or the other. The only person long hair would hurt would be the one with the long hair, so if he chooses to wrestle with it that is on him.

I have no idea if this was the case but if an opossing coach makes a scene about his hair and the inadequate covering, the referee has to enforce the rules.

Ref was correct.

The headcut requires a cover and the wrestler did not have a proper hair cover. By rule, the wrestler must comply with the regulation or forfeit.

Not necessarily.

Long hair can get between the head and arms/body and allow you to slip out of some positions and affects how tight you can lock in some techniques.

It also blocks the referee’s vision on some illegal moves and pins

It also gets in the eyes and face of the offensive wrestler in the top position.

It also blocks the view of the wrestler which presents safety issues

I don't know the rules, but I would assume the coach would know whether or not his hair was against the rules and would take appropriate action if so.

I know some will argue that it's about discipline, etc.. But what's the big deal? I wouldn't want my RBs to have dreads that come out of the back of their helmets because it is something else that a defender can grab on, but different people like to have different hairstyles. Don't see a problem with it. It would be like telling players they can't get tattoos.

At this point I think a lot of people are numb to the word racist. It seems to be thrown out in every situation that doesn't seem to go a particular person's way. " My manager was white and I'm black that's why he fired me, all I did was take money from the register. " It's starting to feel like you can't hate a person that's different than you because they are an a-hole without being labeled a racist for it. I hate some black people, white people Mexican people and Asian people. I also love some black people, white people, Mexican people and Asian people. Has nothing to do with the color of their skin but the context of their character.
