There are plenty of street cars out that have more HP than Indy cars. It doesn't mean they're faster though.

I understand that. My point sort of hinged on the size of that car. There's no way it has an engine putting out 1600 hp.

Yep, my neighbor got one and he was dead in a month. He lost it while lighting up the tires and he hit a tree on driver side door. The tree was only about 4 inches in diameter

I have always wanted a Viper, and still do. However, they are definitely dangerous. I believe the older ones don't even have anti-lock breaks.

I don't know, man. After all, Pro-stock dragsters run gasoline (albeit racing gas at 118 octane), must be naturally aspirated, are limited to 500 cubic inches (about 8.2L), must be a 90 degree V8, and make north of 1,500 hp.

The Viper came with around an 8L 90 degree V10 (depending on the year). You bore it and stroke it to get the displacement significantly over 8L, charge it to get cylinder pressures up, find a source of high octane fuel to avoid pre-detonation due to the increased cylinder pressures, and put an engine tune in to take advantage of all of that and it isn't crazy to think it would make 1,600 hp. Actually asking the engine to make that power with you in the car, especially that particular model car, IS crazy though.

Now, cooling something like that would be a task and you're might not be able to run it at full power often or for very long without some serious problems due to heat buildup. Also, how long an engine that worked over would hold up without extensive and continuous care and maintenance is a good question to ask.

ETA: There's a Viper pushing 2300 hp using racing gas and racing tunes. There are also articles where people are making 1600 hp in Vipers using pump gas, so it definitely can be done. You do have a REALLY good argument that this particular car doesn't put out 1600 hp, though, if you just look at the price. That kind of power output doesn't come at a $45k price tag.

Nope. I would much rather drive and have this Dodge Challenger Hellcat. They look pretty sharp, very fast, comfortable, and a lot safer than that Viper !

707 horsepower and 650 pound-feet of torque.

The Hellcat doesn't have 707 horsepower. I am driving a Hellcat. It's a 6.4L Hemi with 485hp.

The Hellcat Redeye has 797hp.

The Demon has 808hp and the Demon Crate has 840.

I knew a guy who was 20 that bought a new Viper with some of his inheritance money. It was constantly vandalized, especially when he went to bars. He ended up selling it and buying a six speed Camaro SS.

That has deathtrap written all over it. Would be interesting to talk to an insurance adjuster to figure out the death/disability probabilities within two years of owning a built early gen Viper.

Its the car equivalent of a built street bike. The question isn't if something bad is going to happen but when.

I rode in one in 1999. I can confirm it was one of the scariest experiences of my life. We were doing 80 MPH and when the guy barely touched gas tires smoked. I had never witnessed a car burnout at 80 mph.

According to Car & Driver Magazine the 2017 Hellcat has 707 HP.

This is some Cheeri0 logic. This is almost ss dumb as MJ2's go fast to use half the gas logic.
