As someone(s) has already said, the appeal of the dive bar is that its kinda hidden and unknown and therefore the pretentious are no found there. The problem with a lot of dive bars these days are directly related to the quotes you posted. The new dive bar crowd doesn't treat them correctly. They should be treated the same as an old fisherman treats his "honey hole".

More chill neighborhood vibe. Fewer "playas", if you will.

There’s always been dive bars, used to we just called them either “the bar” or “hole in the wall”

There is a dive bar near my house. A manhattan is $4.50, and they use makers mark. Their jukebox made the list of best jukeboxes in america. And you get 25 songs for $5.
Exactly on the jukebox. Used to go to a dive in NYC. The bar girl (bartender) sang backup on dozens of major albums. The juke box was her passion, and it was very cool indeed. And you didn't pay thru the nose for drinks and beers. Wanna bring your dog? Sure. Probably more welcome than you are.

there is a dive bar I somewhat frequent that dogs get their first bowl of beer for free. About every other time I go in, I see one at the bar.

Nothing at all wrong with a good dive bar visit from time to time.

Well, if you are into diving.....

I like them because you can dress like a slob and the entire purpose of entering one is to get absolutely shitlacked.

Cheap drinks where you can get fricked up without running into anyone that matters.
I friggin LOVE The Cottage Inn on HWY73 in Prairieville.
The bartender (Torrie) is an awesome lady who freely admits to being "White Trash with a heart of Gold"
The music is a mix of country and old school hiphop
It doesn't matter what time of day, Someone is always drinking at "The coatage"
$6 Double Makers... Frick yes

drive past it all the time but never been inside.
What about that place off 621 across from Ace?
I HAVE stepped inside of the one surrounded by lowes' parking lot.

Were you ever in Kings Bay? They had a dive bar there called the Bloody Bucket.

have not been there
Cottage is bigger than you'd expect it to be. Two pool tables, darts, Golden Tee and other bar games. They also do Karaoke which is generally pretty terrible except it provides some amazing people watching opportunities
My personal favorite was watching a barely 21 yo skinny wannabe cowboy serenade his hippo-sized HS sweetheart/cousin with Johnny Cash

You sure ask for answers on a lot of pretty straightforward questions

A dive bar reminds me of the bars I grew up going to.
The Bayou and Magoo's on Chimes Street were two awesome dives back in the day.

Dive bar close to my house called “Somewhere Else”. Has dart boards and Friday is karaoke night.
I get to go and not know a soul in there besides my friends. It’s always a good time.

What is a hippie drink?
Anything that isn't a Bud or a Jack Daniels and coke?

that was my first night of drinking while stationed on Pittsburgh
When I finished Radio "A" School, they flew me to meet 720 in King's Bay
My first day on the ship, we got into a fight with the A-Gang down in AMR then went out drinking with them.
