re: $35 million to widen/improve Lee Drive in Baton Rouge?

I know a few years back I went to a meeting an are hoa had about roads. If the roads on the green light plan did not get done by a certain time the studies would have to be redone or if there was changes like flood, etc.

They did widen Tiger Bend from Jefferson to just past Jones Creek.

They have to acquire land, bury the drainage, move the utilities, and widen a bridge.

Lee Drive drainage is totally inadequate. Yes, utilities and drainage will cost big bucks

My grandparents moved to a house on Hyacinth near Glasgow shortly after World War 2 when that area was in the country (and Hyacinth and Lee Drive, which ended at Whitehaven, were gravel).
He and my dad used to quail hunt in what is now parts of Southdowns, Meadow Lea, and Pollard Estates. They later moved to a house on Stephens Avenue in the early 1960's, and my dad built a house in Pollard in 1956 that he still lives in today.

Well last week leading up to election they had a cop holding up traffic on a state highway - Nicholson so the UClub could get out of their subdivision in the mornings all week - how is that legal?

Not as bad as the cop holding up traffic to let people out of Blue Bayou because they’re too lazy to park in the parking lot across the street.

buying ROW and moving utilities would be a huge chunk of that cost, not to mention it would take a long time to complete because of constant traffic delays. It would probably take 3-5 years to widen College Drive with all the utilities and traffic in the way. ![](https://images.tigerdroppings.com/Images/Icons/Iconbanghead.gif)

Just adding a turn lane would be a huge improvement for that section.

This x100. It took just as long to add one turning lane to the road as it would to add 3 more lanes because of all of the utilities being moved and drainage improvements. Five lane it if you're going to have to buy ROW and move the utilities. Buy enough ROW to expand later and buy out those houses close to the road and bulldoze them down.

You obviously don't know shite about road construction. A mile of road through a green pasture might not cost 2, unlike a mile of underground landmines, houses, and congested traffic. It might take over an hour to get your materials to you, something that is not good if it's concrete for example. If you cut someone's water/gas/sewer line off in the morning to work on a line, you have to have it back up before you leave. Utilities work is a nightmare and takes forever because you can only do so much at a time and you can't just rip and roar digging a trench because of all of the lines that are in service. That's not even including weather delays.

I'm curious how the I-10 widening project affects the flow of traffic down 73. Hopefully things improve
I really wish they would add an entrance to DTHS (Carrie Lane) at the back of the property which would alleviate congestion
