$35 million to widen/improve Lee Drive in Baton Rouge?

Noticed a $35 million call out for widening Lee Drive (between Highland and Perkins) in the measure that voters passed Saturday.
Residents on that stretch fought off improvements for decades. I can’t believe actually this found its way into the ballot.

Just adding a turn lane would be a huge improvement for that section.
Also noticed a $50 million allocation to improve College Drive between I-10 and Perkins.

The entire Lee/College/Highland area is hellish to drive if it’s not 3AM.

I can't think of a more appropriate use of money...that stretch has been a bottleneck since I was at LSU 30 years ago.
Unfortunately, houses along that route are so close to the road, a lot of them will have to go in order to make it work. Those properties that remain after the improvement will be worth some pretty good cash as commercial sites, though.

It may solve an issue here, but BR (La for that matter) never seems to learn from its mistakes. How they continue to allow development without requiring infrastructure improvements is insane. Lee drive was a shite show thirty years ago. Same with Siegen. And let’s not even discuss downtown to midcity. I don’t know if it’s NIMBYs or cronyism, but nothing is ever done here with any apparent forethought. They may get around to fixing things, but it never seems to be a long term fix.

The mythical Jones Creek extension to Airline has been talked about for 30 years. I’ll believe it when I see it.

That whole area needs to be re-imagined. Maybe services roads or something. It's such a cluster.

The road is in terrible condition going from Walmart to the interstate. That little stretch between the Verizon store and Chic Fil A is third world level bad.

If you live in EBR, you are going to put up more than that. SWB made sure of it.

Never going to happen or college or anything else below Florida. The up and coming area is nbr. Nothing will happen in sbr. Book it Dano

My daily mantra is this, College Drive is for suckers.

I remember a time when there was virtually no traffic on that stretch of road. It was back in the 40s

I noticed that the layout plan for the new I-10 widening included a way to go eastbound on I-10 from Dalrymple.
That’s going to take some commuter traffic off College and Acadian, right?

Lol
Woody Dumas passed a large bond issue to improve streets in NBR. The current grid system we have now north of Florida is thanks to him.
His second bond issue to modernize streets in SBR failed. The ballot included widening Dalrymple, West Parker north to Dalrymple. It also included widening Lee.
I wish someone could post that initiative. It was pretty good.

I wasn't aware carpet bombing was so expensive.

If they can improve Lee/College just like they did Essen/Starring that would be great

It’s absolutely asinine how a project that actually cost more like 2-3 million for labor, materials, studies, etc. somehow becomes 35 million. frickin thieves

Are they still claiming that they’re going to widen Tiger Bend Rd?! I know they’ve been saying that for at least 2 decades now...
