We may not have a premiere date yet for Patrick Stewart’s upcoming revival of his “Star Trek: The Next Generation” character, Jean-Luc Picard, but we have our first idea of when he’ll be beaming up to CBS All Access.

David Nevins, the newly-named chief creative officer for CBS Corporation, told attendees at the 46th Annual UBS Global Media and Communications Conference that the still-untitled series should debut sometime a year from now. “In 2019, it’s not one ‘Star Trek,’ it’s two ‘Star Treks.’ ‘Discovery’ at the beginning of the year, and Picard will start at the end of the year,” he said on Tuesday.

Stewart is making a comeback as his iconic character Jean-Luc Picard in an upcoming new “Star Trek” series for CBS All Access to join “Star Trek: Discovery,” which returns for its second season early next year. The new series will be spearheaded by “Star Trek: Discovery” co-creator and executive producer Alex Kurtzman.

It will be the third “Star Trek” series for CBS All Access, including the animated “Lower Decks.”

Stewart carved out his place in “Star Trek” history while playing Picard for seven seasons on “The Next Generation,” as well as in four movies. In September, Stewart tweeted a picture revealing the writers’ room for the upcoming CBS All Access “Star Trek” series featuring his return to his iconic role as Jean-Luc Picard had broken ground.

CBS All Access has been quickly ramping up its original-scripted slate with shows from producers including Will Ferrell (“No Activity”) and Ridley Scott (“Strange Angel”). All Access also has “Why Women Kill” from “Desperate Housewives” creator Marc Cherry on the horizon, and perhaps its buzziest project: a reboot of “The Twilight Zone,” led by Jordan Peele that has a cast including Sanaa Lathan, Adam Scott, Kumail Nanjiani, John Cho, Allison Tolman and Jacob Tremblay.

In the next year, the streaming space will continue to grow further, with WarnerMedia, Apple and Disney all launching their own direct-to-consumer offerings.

“I don’t envy the guys starting from a standing start in 2019 or 2020,” Nevins continued.

Finally. I just hope for the love of God they leave the Abrams era/Discovery shite behind as well as the TNG movie feels and just make a series akin to the TNG series.

I also hope they can capture the TNG feel. That show was able to tackle tough issues in a way that wasn’t hamfisted or saccharine. Unlike shows these days.

I thought The Orville did it pretty well. Not at the level of TNG but if they can recreate that....make it so.

Will we finally find out what Q meant when he talked about Picard's future? Because All Good Things made it look like he just became a befuddled old farmer or something.

That's a bit harsh, but I do agree that Kirk > Picard.

Anyone who can take a knife to the heart from a Nausicaan in a bar fight and survive is ok in my book.

Picard finds that babe from TNG episode, “The Perfect Mate”, marries her and makes lots of bald English babies. He was imprinted on her, after all.

Seriously, hope they just go The Next Next Generation with this. Tried Discovery and nah.

He belonged with Vash!

Besides, the Perfect Make chick died in one of the X-Men movies when her psychic powers turned into Dark Phoenix, I think.

The Orville

Fox is so stupid with sci-fi.

Marketed the show as Family Guy in space.

Watch show and definitely not Family Guy.

Continue to watch show to find this is a homage to Star Trek, not a parody.

Why wouldn’t you start there, Fox?

The Orville is the second best "Star Trek" series after TNG.

I haven't watched The Orville yet, but have you watched Deep Space 9?

As far as the new Picard Trek series goes, Red Letter Media has a full video on what they'd like to see out of it, and I like a lot of Mike's ideas.

Me too. And I’m sure CBS will do the opposite. I hate Discovery and I don’t want another show like it, especially with Picard.

Allow me a tangent here to say that I love it whenever Mike goes off on Star Trek references and Jay kind of stares off because he has no idea what Mike is talking about.

Back to the subject matter; I love TNG. I consider it to be one of my favorite shows. But, I am not shelling out money for CBS all access to watch Picard.

It won’t be just him. I’m sure Brent Spiner will be back, maybe a cameo from Riker as a captain. Picard will probably be a retired admiral who is called back into service for an emergency.
