Greedy's son will probably commit to LSU then go to Alabama on Signing Day.

The insurance policy thing has got to be the dumbest line on this board. Kid could make 50-60 million over his career. An insurance policy might give him 5 million if he’s lucky.

Look at the kid from UCF. They were talking about amputating his leg.

Using Greedy as an example. Exactly how much money would he lose if he has a significant injury in the bowl game?

I think jaylen Smith is the perfect example. Smith was supposed to be a top 5 pick, tore his ACL and another ligament, had nerve damage, so he fell to the second round. It cost him around 14mil on his rookie contract

You think everyone of his teammates wouldn’t do the same thing given the same opportunity? Not a single one will have trouble understanding this

I think he's doing one better and being a father.

This is a nice story line and all but it’s a little far-fetched. Jaylon Smith keeps getting thrown around as an example of what could go wrong. Well, Smith signed a four-year $6.5MM deal after his injury. Hell the league minimum is $450k per year. Short of Greedy being permanently disabled or killed on the football field, I’d say his kid is going to be just fine.

If people want to point out all of the money that’s on the table for him I can’t argue with that. But let’s call a spade a spade.. this is about the difference between millions and tens of millions.

I care about the Fiesta Bowl. So do most LSU fans, I would think. It's a big bowl game. Not every team gets to play in a NY6 bowl game. If you "don't care," why are you a fan? At the same time, Greedy can do whatever the hell he wants. While I think he should play, I'm not him and I don't have millions of dollars in my near future.

And you'd think he more than other players wouldn't want to play dirty and jeopardize other players' livelihood by leading with the crown of his helmet on tackles.

They have done right by LSU and I support whatever decision they make.

Doing right by LSU would be finishing the season. Let’s not get it twisted. Greedy is doing right by Greedy here. Regardless of which side you’re on in this discussion, I don’t think that’s debatable.

Exactly. All these tough guy internet warriors don't know what the real world is and in the real world carriers are nickle and diming every one of those policies and I know of not one player who has not lost a great deal of worth in the event of an injury or any value dropping event from playing.

There’s no telling what his policy said or covered. For instance, Fournette had two, one that was a disability policy if he had a career ending injury and another that covered any “circumstance” that caused his stock to drop. I think the any circumstance was interesting. I’m betting that had something do with what happened to La’el Collins. And sure, just like any insurance carrier, they’re going to try to avoid paying you, but that’s what lawyers are for.

Regardless, we all have instances in our lives where we are faced with decisions to make that are selfless and doing right for those around us when it may not benefit ourselves. For every Jaylon Smith there are thousands of players that played in their bowl games or even their senior seasons (I know we don’t have any of these but I promise the NCAA lets you play 4 years) without incident. And just for clarity’s sake, Smith still signed a contract that had life changing money.

I don’t like it, but I respect and get the decisions under the set up. I wish kids didn’t get to go to the draft so early. Not the rule, so deal with it.

I understand the loss of some money if they’re injured but they made a commitment to the university to play football in exchange for an education and they should fulfill that commitment.

This is a NFL farm league, the idea that the players are there to get an education is a outdated fairytale, and its not "some money", its millions, only a idiot would play a bowl game and risk that. Besides, scholarships are only granted year to year, the university could pull it at anytime, they have no long term commitment to the players, and there is no reason to expect anything different in return from the players.

No problem if you have an injury or are predispositioned for one based on previous injuries. Otherwise, play.

First time we have ever heard of that. Let your agent pay for it... why so he can just play in a game that is a “reward for a good season and practice for next”. Nope. Too much risk even with policy.

While you are ABSOLUTELY correct with this statement, a majority of some of those on scholarship have no clue how to even spell their name and much less speak properly. They do not care about an education at all. It’s all about “me”. Typical mentality.

And yet some will continue to argue that these cats should actually be paid to play college sports, in particular, football.
