Dude whatever. You have to show a unified front to get top recruits. If you haven’t gotten it by now you won’t. later.

Can you please stop saying you fired a coach who averaged 10 wins. Check his last years.

So you would destroy recruiting and the program because you hate the coach. Yep you are a real LSU fan.

So give him an extension and a paltry buyout. Share the risk. If he performs he continues, when he fails, the financial impact is minimal

Says who? How many recruits do you think have any earthly idea how long Orgeron has left on his contract?

This idea that coaches with less than 4 years remaining on their contract are at a recruiting disadvantage was undoubtedly started by coaching agents and ate up by the idiots.

We are at a point where kids transfer after not seeing the field their freshman year, good players leave after their junior year, and coaches change jobs like they change their underwear. This is a different era of college football.

all of them. Are you kidding me with this? They're making the biggest decision to that point of their lives. Them and their families are putting their trust in a coach to guide them through the next chapter of their lives. You really think they don't have any idea what the coaches' contact situations look like? Please tell me you're not that dumb.

The coaches we recruit against are masters of negative recruiting. They're going to use any negative to their advantage. If a 2020 recruit is making a pros and cons list and it's between us and A&M, I can guarantee you Orgeron only having 2 years left on his contract with a virtually nonexistent buyout is going in the cons column for LSU. On the flipside, he's pretty much guaranteed Jimbo will be there his whole career.

You've got to be insane if you don't think that can factor into someone's decision.

The reality is, he's not getting fired now, he's highly unlikely to get fired after next season either, so what's it matter if we extend him now and guarantee him more money THAT'S HE'S GOING TO GET ANYWAY to give the illusion of more security?

Do you really think he's getting fired after next season? No way, man. If next season is disappointing, he'll still get 2020, and if we extend him now, we provide stability for recruiting the next two years and by the time we might actually make a move, the buyout will have reduced to around what it is now (which is something like $3.5 million).

How is this even a rational business decision?

1. The man isn't doing an awesome job. I would argue it's slightly above pedestrian.
2. He isn't keeping his promises of fixing the offense. Les' TE =/= fixing the offense.
3. NOBODY is trying to hire him away. He doesn't have much value or leverage.

They were talking about this on one of the sports shows today. They were saying it has to do more with recruiting. Can’t recruit a player for 2020, if your contract ends in 2019. It’ is used against you by other schools.

If I'm Mullen/Saban/Fisher/Smart - "O is 1-6 against the cream of the crop in the SEC over the last 2.5 years. Think about it. He isn't winning anything important anytime soon. Doesn't matter how long he is there."

That is WAY more powerful than the contract line.

Plus, if the contract thing is no big deal, isn't the defense about not having an extension "No big deal" as well?

Recruit: "But Ed, they said you don't have a contract through 2020...?"
O: "No big deal. We comin', and winning games. As long as you're with me, we win, and extensions are just meaningless paperwork that will get done."

LSU has a very good chance of going to a NY6 bowl when some we're speculating LSU were going to be 6-6 or worse. Was LSU perfect this year of course not, but by all means so far this year has been successful even though people are going to cry championship or bust. The reality is nobody is going to top Bama as long as Saban is there right now.

That's great. And then A&M comes in:
Jimbo: who else you like?
Recruit: it's between you and LSU
Jimbo: aww son. You don't want to LSU. You want to go somewhere with some stability and you know the coaches are going to stick around. Trust me, you don't want to go through a coaching change. New coach comes in, you're not "his guy" he wants to bring in "his guys". He doesn't want to mess the the old coaches guys. The old coaches guys get blamed as the reason he got fired. Trust me. It's an ugly situation. It's not fun at all. Next thing you know, you're transferring to finish out your last year or two. Going somewhere new. You don't know them, they don't know you. No sir. You want to go somewhere that you know the coaches that recruit you are going to be there with you for your whole career.
