According to pff, Rankins is one of 5 interior d-lineman with 400+ snaps who has yet to get a penalized this year. Not bad for a dude with such a quick first step.

What has caused him to develop a pass rush this year? He’s been phenomenal.

Tyeler Davison being 100%. He can finally be a space eater allowing Rankins to penetrate upfield.

So Nick Fairley ate up less space than Davison?

I agree, he has been great. I also think the d line coach has really helped our d line. This is his 2nd year and I think he has quietly been a huge asset to our defense the last 2 years.

He gave an interview last week where he stated it’s because he’s using power moves and his strength in conjunction with finesse moves.

He was trying to perfectnfinesse moves too much last season? I think he said

Rankins was the space eater (took up double-teams) last season because Fairley was out and Davidson played injured. Rankins was out/injured for most of 2016 when Fairley played.

DT is one of the positions where it seems to take guys a few years to come in. I’d guess it’s more of a natural progression based on his talent - he’s living up to it. A rare home run DT pick by the Saints after whiffing on how many?

We were due.

Where Rankins has changed the most this year, though, is that he said he has gone back to relying on his power more than just his athleticism.

"For me, I'm like an athlete first. So being able to beat a guy on the edge or spin or with quickness is something I'm always working on, I'm always trying to perfect. But at times over the last couple years, I've gotten so caught up in that, I haven't used as much power as I needed to do," Rankins said. "I think it's something I used a good bit in college. But I think I worked so much on working edges the last couple years, trying to beat guys around the corner, trying to win that way ... that I abandoned at times the fact that I was strong, I was powerful.

"And being able to kind of incorporate that back into my rush has pretty much opened the door for me ... to kind of set up those speed rushes, those finesse rushes."

The only DT I can say has definitely been better than him so far this season is Aaron Donald. Rankins might be all pro

He can make all pro if he gets to double digit sacks. It’s so rare for DTs to get there.

Donald has 12.5

But Rankins is tied for 2nd behind him with Geno Atkins

He's playing "DE" this year, but that's still a great number for any position.

So technically Rankins is tied for first among DTs (unless you group them as interior vs. edge players as Donald would be interior since he plays DE in a 3-4).

How many did he have against us again though?

About time a DT we drafted worked out. Sedrick Ellis could have been dominant and flashed it at times but he didn't love playing football anymore. I think he was only 26 or 27 when he retired.

He plays DT and on passing downs they move Suh to DE sometimes have Brockers at DT with Donald

He is being double team by the guard and center on 70% of all plays

So for all you down voters explain that.

Do you watch games or do you just skim through them.

I see this board is not Fact based
