I've never understood why TDK is considered bulletproof by the internet, while a legitimately great popcorn flick like Inception routinely gets torn to shreds by know-it-all fanboys.

I agree that TDK was great on first watch at the theater (probably a 9/10) and falls apart on multiple viewings, though I would never call it awful - more like mediocre. Gyllenhaal (an actor I usually hate) and Eckhart (an actor I usually love) kill my interest pretty fast when it comes on tv.

It doesn't compare to the greatness of an MCU film, but it's still enjoyable.

Christopher Nolan gets sucked off like none other around here...

We did a Best movie of all time list, and while most of the Top 10 were deserved - The Good the Bad the Ugly, 2001, etc. - The Dark Knight came in at #2 if that tells you anything.

Of all time.

It's an average film. Batman Begins is better. TDKR is worse by a good margin.

That said, The Prestige if a near perfect film.

The joker is the hero of TDK

It’s kind of a long read but here’s a snippet.
quote:

Along comes the Joker and by the end of a very short time, almost all organized crime was eliminated, many corrupt officials were imprisoned or dead, and the city's Vigilante even went into hiding for 8 years. This was all part of Joker's masterfully executed plan.

This would be funny, except see above.

You think MCU films are held in high regard, try TDK being a better film than Seven Samurai. Yeah, that happened.

I don’t hate the Dark Knight, but I don’t love it either. I walked away from the theater thinking it was an okay time and nothing more.

I didn’t feel the need then or now to overanalyze it favorably or unfavorably. But it is not a “great” movie, as some people insist. Good, but not “great.”

I re-watched for the first time in several years a few weeks ago and also was surprised at how mediocre it was on re-watch.

Some movies/directors/actors here are just untouchable. This is one of them.

relax, I'm joking

No one needs to change OPs mind, we all have our opinions on films. Some love TDK, some don't, and that's just fine.

Heath Ledger's Joker.

No other actor has anywhere as close to encapsulating the brilliantly random chaos of this character as did Ledger. Even though all the awards he got were posthumous, he deserved every single one.

It hasn't aged all that well.

I actually disagree with that. I've come to appreciate TDK and TDKR a lot more after re watch. I thought both were just average when I first saw them in theaters. I find both to be very enjoyable now.

so, i actually agree with a lot of your points. i disagree that they form the basis of it being a horrible movie, however.

i love the Dark Knight regardless of these things and most of them are pretty minor in the overall scope of the movie to me.

so yes, while I agree with most of the stuff you said, I also agree that it's a terrible troll job and not really worth any further time responding to.

I still think The Dark Knight is a really good movie and all, but I think I let Heath's performance trick me into thinking it was a better movie than it was.

The Joker was never written as a character who caused random chaos until this movie.

Why?

You're entitled to your opinion.

And I don't know that anyone disagrees with your take on Maggie Gyllenhaal.

It shouldn't be. It's just not that good.
