This is the only rational explanation for SE, i.e., SE was a stop-gap until the long-term hire became 'acceptable.'

In what world can a guy who wants to continue being the head of the LSU football program say anything but this?
Well, I wanted Briles, but they wouldn't let me hire him because of the optics so the program is using Steve until I find a guy they will let me hire.
Yeah, that's not how any of this works.

The Ensminger hire has always been odd, especially given that Orgeron knew coming into the job that he needed to significantly improve the offense. This all makes perfect sense.
And it doesn't surprise me at all that Alleva and King would pull this kind of stunt. Again.
King Alexander tanked the Jimbo hire in 2015. He decided to bring back Miles when Jimbo and LSU had a mutual agreement in place.
Joe Alleva tanked the coaching search in 2016 with his sheer incompetence. Period.
And now, they're both working to undermine the one coach that needs all the help he can get, all because of "optics" once again.
Alleva and King are the two greatest threats to the success of LSU football right now.

I saw the original post by the OP. It's definitely a good indicator that LSU leaders are hindering Coach O's effort to bring in the best. Makes you wonder who else that may have gotten rejected.

I mean LSU wouldn’t have been the only school interested in an OC with the Pedro here of K Briles so cant really blame our admin. Very few power 5 schools would’ve taken either. Remember UH got some serious flack for hiring him.

I feel the same way. Ensminger said multiple times over the last few years that he didn't want to be the OC. I think O talked him into doing it for a year.
