Spread offenses don’t work. Look at Auburn.

YES!

Will it hurt the defense? sure, any offense can hurt your defense. If you cant move the chains or score, your defense will suffer no matter what offense you run.

Just look back at how many spread teams have played SEC teams and the results to get your answer.

Isn't LSU running a spread offense? Or trying to run a spread offense? Just a shitty one?

I think this thread is a trap.

There are many variations of Spread offense. It’s like saying there’s only one kind of sandwich. You can be a zone spread, power run spread. Option spread. Etc.

This shows how dumb LSU fans can be.

Alabama has been running a spread since 2014, Auburn runs a spread, Florida runs a spread, Mississippi state, Ole Miss, Arkansas and Missouri all run a spread.

South Carolina, Texas A&M, Kentucky and Georgia all run variances of the spread with pro style concepts mixed in.

The spread works, what doesnt work in the SEC or at least not to the same extent as other conferences is the air raid style spread that Missouri runs.

But yes the spread works especially when coached by a coach who knows the concepts.

A spread offense is only as good as the OC making the play calls and the QB carrying out the orders effectively.

ETA: Unlike the NFL, most college teams are still a run first program. Once the teams that have stellar defense become pass first, they are going to reign for long time. I find a viable passing game opens the running game much more than the run game opens up the pass (see New Orleans Saints).

Spread offense will not work in the SEC. offenses that work in spread concepts can. Everyone is running some version of zone read and rpo with 3 and 4 split receivers.

Have you ever heard of Tim Tebow?

Yes, the spread system can work. It worked very well in the SEC, and it is working very well in the SEC. Alabama, Georgia, Auburn and Florida are all running the spread right now, while LSU and Tennessee are running more traditional offenses and falling behind by the year as a result.

Spread =/= up-tempo or no-huddle spread.

There is a difference between Urban Meyer and Chip Kelly and the ways they use the spread offense.

If the no-huddle spread is ineffective, it can cripple your defense, IMO.

It’s safe to say that our defense suffers about as much as a defense can suffer with the offense we run now.

Is this 2005?

Spread offenses have been working in the SEC for over 10 years now
Florida - 2 NC
Auburn - 1 NC and 1 runner up
Bama - 2 NC running a spread and 1 runner up - if no injury to Tua will probably win another
Ole Miss and Miss ST - had best seasons in their modern football history running spread systems
Texas A&M - had a heisman winner running a spread

People can argue whether it’s spread or not and the definition of spread offense, but I suggest pulling up every loss Saban has had since his time at LSU and make a note of what almost all have in common. To run or offense is to not even try!
