they are bad at soccer because not a good pool of talent to begin with not many club players, not good coaching , and nonathletic kids Admin also gives no money or support

Baton Rouge High doesn’t have many sports. Why can’t they be good at some?

Because the good BRSC kids don't go there in enough numbers to make them competitive.

Baton Rouge High got at least one vote in the preseason coaches poll:

2018-2019 LHSSCA PRESEASON RANKINGS

November 6, 2018

For immediate press release:

The Louisiana High School Soccer Coaches Association (LHSSCA), conducts this poll. The voting committee consists of ten coaches from each division throughout the state. Exactly. And this applies to all schools in the Baton Rouge area. BRHS stopped being consistently competitive when they moved up a division about 20 years ago. A few years after that, they stopped bringing in premier coaches and voilà, mediocrity.

Where do the players go? BRSC is the #1 LA team in my son’s age group (U13) and they’re always top 5. Seems like gathering 4 years of those best players would yield a damn good team, coach be damned.

Yeah, we have lots of talent in Baton Rouge, but it gets so spread out among all the schools to where none of our teams can really ever compete for state. The talent is far more concentrated among elite programs in other parts of the state like Houma-Thibodaux, Lafayette, Northshore, and New Orleans.

Catholic is the only program that can field an entire team of club players, and they have to compete with Jesuit and St. Paul’s to win state. The rest of us are just happy to get more than a few guys who have played before high school.

The elite players, as in the top 15-20 in the city at each grade level, are still spread out in New Orleans amongst Jesuit, Brother Martin, Newman, Lusher, East Jefferson, Holy Cross, Ben Franklin and a few more. The difference is depth. Jesuit had 100 kids at tryouts this year in grades 9-12. Every one of them are year round club players. I suspect Bother Martin was similar.

Speaking of Vandy! my Riverdale just beat them 1-0 in a scrimmage on Tuesday!

My Freshman goalie's first game and he held more than his own. MOTM! product of Motagua ;)

GO REBELS!

Meh. The majority of BRHS's student body is female. Compairing their team sports to Catholic's comes down to a lot more than money.

Not to the club and HS rosters of all of those schools, no. The comment was based on observation.
