So if there was a police report I should have been involved at least with something, shouldnt I? like a statement or something?

Not neccisarily. What would a statement from you do? They know there were transactions and they know where from. What could you have provided that they didn't already know?

How does someone steal your credit card?

Was likely cloned. I had a charge recently show up on my card and it showed up as an in-person charge.

I am confused and I guess different credit card companies don’t handle this the same way.
I have had my number stolen multiple times and used multiple places. I get a call asking if I made the purchase. Once I verify what purchases were not mine they just tell me I am not responsible for them and they issue me a new card.
There isn’t any reimbursement. This should rest solely on Sams.

I get it, but I don't think its a learning thing.

Depends on the cop. I recently had someone from BRPD work to find someone that stole a card and charged less than a grand.

Already talked to credit card company and they are going to refund the amount in a week or so.

But I wanna know who the frick did this. Sams says I need to file a police report before they will do anything.

Should I pursue or just say frick since Im getting my money back?

It's not your money, it's the credit card companies money.

update- I just filed a police report and it is felony and it’s in the hurry up and wait stage right now.
Sams told me they do not require an I.D with any purchase which I said was ridiculous.
Also my credit card is missing from my wallet. Either it fell out or was removed. I’m at a loss as to how. Doing some renovations on my house so been some suspect characters coming and going recently. That’s all I got to go on until I see the video.

Inb4 subtle brag on home renovations

Also inb4 I’m a dumbass for potentially leaving my wallet out in open where it could be stolen even if it is in my own home.

shite happens, man. Don't beat yourself up over it.

I almost never get asked for ID when I use a credit card and have put way more than $3500 on a charge. It's not uncommon.

You seem dumb especially to expect all places to check IDs with purchases.

Was it exactly for$3500?
If so, they bought gift cards.

Further, my guess is that it was an employee involved incident.

Depending on what type of card you used, Sam's may not be able to ask for your or the thief's ID. Mastercard and Visa's merchant agreement prohibits retailers from asking for ID when the card is signed on the back.

ETA: I agree it is ridiculous

Im sure the reno company would find it interesting, and maybe something can be done against them if it were one of their guys. Or at least find a discount for your troubles there.

I do find it interesting they went somewhere that requires a membership. Sketch somewhere.

Reporting to police is just pointless. Had an older liablity only truck stolen yrs back, and other than just finding it striped they did nothing. I paid to have it out of the junk yard thinking they would finger print it and help find the culprits. They didnt even bother they there were dirty oil fingerprints all over it. I learned then that the regular folks just get screwed in the situation. My ins went up on my regular car, and rates go up by adding another crime to my zip code.

Last time my vehcle got broken into. I didnt even bother. Just paid the $900 bucks to get my windows fixed and spent about 400 bucks replacing things that were stolen. Now I keep my car bare as heck inside. If you are breaking it will be for some random pens, couple koozies, charging cord, and maybe a couple bucks in coins. Ha. Oh....and the sticker on the veh window saying it's has an alarm doesnt mean jack for the windows are broken unless you get it added on...

As the credit card holder you DO have to call the police the moment you realize there are fraudelant charges, the credit card company won't even recognize them as fraudelant unless you have filed a criminal complaint first.

That is the credit card company of course trying to avoid having to cover the fraudelant charges, because if you don't file a report, you are liable for the charges and thus they expect you to pay and if you call them and say "I didn't file a criminal complaint but these charges aren't mine" they can tell you tough shite and make you pay. However, by law if you have filed a criminal complaint they must at minimum remove the charges from account until the situation is resolved (meaning either they decide to just drop it altogether or someone is arrested) which means if you call and say "hey someone frauadently charged $12000 on my card and I've filed a police report on it" they can't continue to charge you interest on the $12K in disputed charges and eventually they must decide whether to pursue it legally or just eat the charges.

It would be absolutely stupid not to file a criminal complaint.

None of that is true. I’ve never called the police when I had fraudulent charges on my card, just called the card company and they removed them.
