BOSTON (WJAR) — Lawyers for Michelle Carter appeared before the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court on Thursday, arguing to have her involuntary manslaughter conviction in a texting-suicide case overturned.

Carter, 22, of Plainville, was sentenced to 15 months in prison in connection with the suicide of Conrad Roy.

Roy took his own life by carbon monoxide in his truck in Fairhaven four years ago. Prosecutors based their case in large part on text messages between the two, alleging that Carter, then 17, urged Roy, 18, to kill himself.

A text message that is often pointed to as one in which Carter says she told Roy to get back in his truck as he was questioning whether to go through with the suicide.

I just saw this, but what do yall think about this? Should she be held responsible for his death?

Did she receive a fair sentence?

No. She’s a sick fricking monster. Anyone who convinces someone otherwise healthy to take their own life is.

I remember reading about this case when it came out. The texts she sent him were pretty damn disturbing. Now I can't say whether or not she should be freed, but that bitch is crazy.

She ought to be freed and paid for all this trouble. Hello freedom haters. Freedom of expression mean anything to you people? Freedom to express things you like or don't like. Freedom to express monstrous stuff as well.

She's definitely sick and I hope she suffers thinking about what she did for forever and after that. But I'm firmly in the camp of personal responsibility. There is not a person on earth that would convince me to take my own life. If you take a life or take your own, well, that's on you. Should have thought that through.

I never thought she should get in trouble at all. If i tell someone to kill themselves and they do, it is not my fault at all. That person choose to kill themselves

She’s sick no doubt....but she did not kill him.

He made the conscious choice to do so.

If I tell someone to rob a bank and they rob a bank, should I be guilty as an accomplice?
