Has anyone actually bought anything from an ad in the margins of this site?

I run online advertising for 3 businesses. A roofing, hair salon, and honey producer. I manage their social media accounts including advertising, SEO, and branding. I approached them by either cold calling their business or by my own online advertisement.

Man I'd be trying to reach out to totally different types of companies. I know you have to start somewhere but if you're going to make money, I don't think it's going to be on companies with less than a handful of employees. I'd start by cold calling everyone in a sales heavy field. Insurance agents, realtor's, law offices, mortgage companies, etc. If you want to make it work, there's no reason you shouldn't call 5 of each per day. Anyone that has been successful in building their own business has had to drive revenue themselves at some point. Find some kind of referral group like BNI, young businessleaders etc.

I’ve never been in the advertising business but I’ve bought a lot of advertising. I would say you need to be calling/meeting with clients 24/7 to build a good base. Figure out your target audience and go for that first. If you’re selling online presence/ads, social media, SEO type stuff I would probably start with some businesses with older leadership and are long established. They aren’t going to truly understand the need or terminology but if you sell it well they may use you. They sure as hell aren’t going to do it themselves. Have stats on search returns, number of searches, what their competitors are doing online. Every retail business is trying to figure out how to reach millennials right now but few have it figured out.
Good luck!

You'll get better help on the money board. With that said find your niche douche baggery level. A bit of douche bag is okay. Too much is no good. Right now I have a feeling you're too much douche bag

Your logo is bad, looks like some kind of evil symbol
Black website is a bold choice, it is kind of a turn off, kind of foreboding

What is up with all of the stock photos? Especially the weird photoshop of the logo on the desktop?
Where are your case studies? Testimonials? Success stories? Why are you different? Why do I need you?

You are in advertising, do you know a good web designer? Your site looks very rote and formulaic like a buddy or a college kid did it.

The website ain’t gonna sell your business for you, you have to do that yourself with face time of potential clients everywhere you go.

Have you considered hiring a company to advertise for you and get your product out there.

One of my clients does this in Atlanta and it’s a fairly successful business. Moreover, she really enjoys it.

Your primary issue is your website. The first thing my client did was have a company design an amazing website for her business. It was several thousand dollars but worth every penny.

While you might meet your potential clients in person, your website is your true first visual impression on what your company can offer. Your site looks outdated, unprofessional and unsettled. A web design company can work with you to resolve all these issues.

Another issue with your site...you’re an web ad agency, yet you have no ads on your site. If I was a perspective client of yours, that would concern me A cool feature on my client’s site is a rolling ad banner that includes all of her clients. Literally free advertising for her clients, plus it makes them feel important.

If you’re having a hard time getting clients, maybe offer a few of them a couple months of free/extremely discounted services and try to win their business that way.

You need to get a better website and include some testimonials from companies you worked with. If you don't have any, then you should consider doing some pro bono work with an agreement they will help you network.

True. Here are some of the more obvious examples found on just one page.

quote:

If you have a project that needs a privet or public facing website to collect data or manage an organization, let TCG show you how easy a custom website and/or application can make that task.

quote:

Travel charges are waved for any appointment more than 3 hours long.

quote:

We offer the same enterprise class service to home users and employee the same data protection techniques for all our customers.

quote:

We have also developed techniques that that can keep your system safe with the need for expense and burdensome anti-virus software.

quote:

But there is no magic "one stop" sosution to backups

quote:

we can help you get your precious dat aback.

quote:

Project consisting of greater than 15 days in total time, or more than $1,000 are subject to incremental billing.

quote:

Invoice unpaid after 90 days are subject to collection action.

quote:

Time is only resource that we cannot reclaim
(missing "the")

quote:

TCG can and does preform work within government or accreditation frameworks,

There are several wordy, poorly phrased provisions that read like Sheldon drafted them for an iPhone terms of use agreement. Punch it up.

Who is this (below) going to make want to hire you? You're telling a segment of potential customers that they are second class and lower-priority. Why?

quote:

Time is only resource that we cannot reclaim, and thus it is the resource we most jealously guard. TCG reserves the right to schedule work based on our own internal evaluation of necessity. Clients with whom we have contractual obligations for comprehensive IT management must take priority over non-contractual clients. Systems used in mission critical situations take priority over elective systems. Business clients take priority over residential clients. TCG makes every reasonable effort to accommodate all of our clients.

This comes across as "We'll try to get to you, but if you are a smaller client, you are at the bottom of our list."

It's Sunday. I'll be back when it's not the Lord's day.

I just wish that this site had private messaging capabilities, because my advise is much higher suited for privet than publix.

You own an ADVERTISING agency, but you aren't sure how to effectively ADVERTISE your own business?!
This might be your problem. Sounds like you suck at advertising and should go work for someone else for a few years before you run your own business.
