Jesuit (NOLA) sex abuse settlements kept quiet; 1 victim speaks out for first time

Likely happened at every catholic school in NOLA for a long time, both boys and girl schools. Stories might start rolling out after this one was exposed.

This is what happens when we take prayer out of schools.

I just heard about this.

I thought gay sex was just part of the curriculum at Jesuit.

i graduated from catholic high in 1984...for three of those years our class "counselor" was a parish priest on assignment at the school. we hung out with him during and after class, we spent weekends at a camp in lake verret he had access to, he spent evenings at my and other kids houses for dinner and such, i and a few other considered him a close friend and mentor, and he stayed in touch with many of us during college and thereafter

in the late 90's he took a leave of absence from the priesthood (he was a pastor at a parish in pierre part)...i found out when i called to see if he would officiate my wedding. shortly thereafter, it came out that the church had settled a case involving him and a teenage boy, going back to a time troublingly close to the mid-80's

since then, i have not set foot in mass for anything other than a holiday or marriage/funeral, and i've not given a dime of my money nor a minute of my time to CHS.

Why only get them for $500k? You could threaten to go national and probably get another $500k out of it

Jesuit is awesome at keeping stuff covered up.. Suprised this didn’t get squashed..

This is truly disheartening. Jesuit grad as well, and upset to hear about this.

I believe that what we are seeing today in the Catholic Church, teachers and students thing, and even the #metoo are coming to the forefront with the ease of access people to tell their story- social media. Majority of those involved seem to have one common thing- a position of authority or power. Even in this case the custodian was a former ball player. I want to see justice for those truly harmed, and yet still concerned with the ease to get justice with out a thorough burden of proof.

This particular case seemed to make sure the information was accurate and details were confirmed. Therefore this person was compensated for the atrocious actions taken upon him.
