Let's say you are trying stock a new bar from scratch. You set a limit of $80 or less per bottle.
What do you pick for the essentials?
Vodka
Gin
Bourbon
Rum
Scotch
Tequila
Others
I'm guessing most will say Crown for other.
Plus, let's say you want to get 4 bottles of fillers, like Kahlua. What would you get?

Rums would be Bayou for spiced and Black Magic for Dark.
Honey Jack for whiskey. That should leave me enough money to get either a tequila or gin. I’m partial to Bluecoat gin.
ETA: I thought we were trying to get all the bottles for $80 total

you can get very good tequila and vodka for under $80/bottle.
I'd actually recommend something like a $30 bottle of vodka - grey goose, belvedere, kettle etc. and then go for a a bottle of 1942 don Julio tequila which will run you about $130

I understand this, that's why I said $80 limit.
You wouldn't keep the Don Julio out for normal day to day consumption, that would be your private stash, like for Pappy, or a 20+ year old single malt. Stuff you drink occasionally.

Why would you guess that? Crown sucks.

Because a lot of people drink Crown. What is Crown, $25 a bottle? I know Crown sucks but a bottle for guest.

Vodka - Stoli
Gin - Bombay, not Sapphire
Bourbon - Makers
Rum - something from carribean
Scotch - dewars
Tequila - cuervo makes a special edition for $5 or so more than regular stuff. It is legit...I've done the Pepsi challenge with it.
Others - grand Marnier...get it ice cold and shoot it. It'll get ya drunk- you'll be frickin fat girls in no time!

Last time I knew of anyone who drank Crown regularly was in high school.
I actually have a bottle of Crown in my bar. Don’t know where it came from but I keep it front and center hoping that someone will drink the shite. Been there untouched for at least 5 years now.

Ooh. So edgy.
It's not high end, but there is nothing wrong with Crown.

Vodka - Hangar 1 (mixers) and Chopin (sipper)
Gin - Hendricks and Botonist (both good for sipping and mixing)
Bourbon - McKenna (mixer) and Angel's Envy (sipper)
Rum - Pussers
Scotch - just getting into these, so don't really know
Tequila - Abandonado Extra Anejo (by far the best tequilla I've ever tasted. Not distributed here, but you can get from Specs in Houston. Killer killer stuff)

You must not go to tailgates. There are people all over the LSU campus on Saturdays drinking Crown.

I call bullshite. Either that or all of your friends are sky smelling snobs. While I don't drink Crown, I think you are being completely disingenuous with your ridiculous statement

If you are looking to make cocktails I would say spend less and get more variations.
Something like Old Grand Dad 114, Henry Mckenna, and Rittenhouse Rye. These are all over 100 proof, so you will still get some oomph in a mixed drink. Those should all be $30 and below as well.
I would spend $20-30 on a couple tequilas, a blanco and reposado. Something like Espolon is solid for both. Just make sure you get 100% agave.
As far as mixers, you can start with a triple sec like Cointreau, a Vermouth, and some bitters (Peychaud's and angostura). With those, plus whip up some simple syrup, and fresh fruit; there is a slew of cocktails you can whip up.
