I’ll tell you the story.
The year was 1758...
Napoleon was in North America.
He was in a bar in New Orleans.
He slammed two doubloons down on the bar.
---------One was Purple. One was Gold.-----------
The bartender asked “what the hell you want me to do with this?”
As Napoleon was walking away he looked out the corner of his eye and said…
“Geaux Tigahs”

No doubloon in history has been gold in color.

It's actually because our coach wanted to have Mardi gras colors, but the fabric store was out of green

Mardi Gras during the very first LSU-Tulane game.
Tulane LSU bought up all the Green ribbon from this big Department Store in NOLA to adorn their grey uniforms.
Purple and Gold was left for LSU when they came in to the same store shopping for uniform ribbon.
Former LSU President David Boyd had originally selected Blue & White (Geaux Wildcats) for the school colors......

Yes. Simple as this. Do like the meanings of the Mardi Gras colors.
