I posted last week playing for a true contender is worth an extra $15-$25 million a year over "just" being an MVP candidate that regularly makes the playoffs like Westbrook and Harden.

I had a comment along the same vein. That extra income scares me the most. However, he's one Demarcus Cousins injury away from losing a shitload of money going down that path. Unless he goes full Kawhi Leonard his last season, that's a big risk. Watching that happen right in front of his eyes has to factor in somewhat.

Here's the question. Is his new agency going to try to get him a new shoe deal this year or is his agency going to push him to wait til his free agency year. What does AD want? Lots of variables.

Regarding this upcoming season, boy does Julius Randle provide some injury insurance for AD or Niko. I think we can tread water if Jrue is playing how we expect without AD for 10 games and go 5-5 instead of torpedoing down the standings.

Jrue is worth more than AD for this team, due to the makeup of the roster, IMO.

Each team should just have a franchis tag designation that inpacts the team taking the player away.

Supermax money would be enough

Just a thought/theory here on supermax:

Supermax is enticing to be sure. Being the highest paid player in the league is a notch in the belt for many guys. Getting as much as possible for as long as possible is how this works.

But Durant/LeBron have changed that paradigm some. George and Butler too, but in much less dramatic fashion. Davis will have made $120M before his opt out year. Barring catastrophic injury, he's getting a max and at least another ~$150M guaranteed. I think it's more likely for guys in that position, knowing they are set financially for several lifetimes even with merely a UFA max, to value other things besides $$.

Basically, the money for some guys is so overwhelming that it just doesn't matter as much as it used to. And this is before thinking about the cap/team building imolications that come with a supermax deal

I know we all hate the Rockets, but Harden is on a contender. Even in this Warriors era. They pushed GS to 7, have made 2 conference finals in 4 years, and won 65, 55, and 56 games in 3 of those same 4 years

Kyrie is a free agent after this coming season. Celtics with one year kyrie-window to get to finals but of course they have picks but Kyrie is top tier. You can't count on that.

At the end of coming season, Celtics could make offer on ad but it only would guarantee one year, like kahwi. I wouldn't.

They should have a rule that if a team takes a designated player from you in free agency they take an extra cap hit without being able to offer the salary and have to send the team losing the player draft picks.

Maybe even get a complimentary late lottory pick from the league.

There are some national insiders who have heard something what is maybe laughable for now. But might not be so much in the future.
Long-term Bulls plan to pursue AD.

Probably more for FA and not for next year.

But Carter and Bulls 2019 is at least something to start if it is for 2019 (in Bulls perception).

To be clear. I am not saying that Pels/AD will be interested. I am just saying what Bulls FO MIGHT think/consider. A homecoming. We know what kind of person AD is. He wants to win. But family life and home is most important for him.

Hopefully NO is his second home. For years...

I’m so over this rumor bs with AD. Hell even in the new 2k when playing with the Pels they mention rumors of him being traded.

Last year is a player option. So next summer AD will have one year left on his deal and will hit "pre-agency"

NBA news: Anthony Davis WANTS OUT, ready to sign with Lakers next summer - pundit

What the media has become is fricking disgusting.

Taking speculation by a fricking hack and making that headline is complete bullshite.

They mustn't have been listening to any of his post practice interviews. AD is taking ownership of this team in a way he never has before.

This speculation began anew with the changing of agents. The only thing the new agents have done is put AD into MVP campaign mode. The Pels certainly have to do their part and win, but AD to the Lakers next year can't be plan A. AD making his own way in NOLA is better for everyone.

Here's a good one with AD and Randle from a few days ago LINK

The whole interview is worth listening to but the part I'm talking about starts around 5:50
quote:

You've mentioned a couple of times how you want to become the most dominant player in the league. What do you think it's going to take for you to get to that point?

Lead these guys, never taking plays off, being great defensively, when it's time to score or whatever to do offensively I'll do what I have to do. I know what I bring to this team and these guys want to follow, so it's my job and my responsibility to lead these guys and make sure we go far and just have fun through the entire process.

How close do you think you are to being the most dominant player?

I think I'm very close...I think I am the most dominant player but it's my job to try to convince you guys...In my eyes I'm the best player in the game, I really feel that way and nobody can tell me different.

How much of that has nothing to do with on the court stuff but like you said leading the guys?

A ton. Leadership, being here the longest and being the guy, the team, I have to lead these guys, and it might not be like you say on the court it's off the court too. These guys they want to learn, they want to follow and that's my responsibility, some of Jrue to lead these guys and show them how we do things around here

Now that I took the time to type it out I'm going to start a thread with this so more people see it.

OK, mindless click bait nonsense is never going away and I accept that and typically just ignore it. But, what I can't stand is blatant refusal to acknowledge fact and understand NBA finances and rules ESPECIALLY from those in that media who get paid to cover the sport.

AD to Boston CANNOT happen until next offseason, at earliest because you cannot have two designated players on the same team. Boston has Kyrie, who they will not trade, on their roster. Now, they could be traded for each other. That won't happen.

Next, we all know AD is eligible for the Supermax this offseason which will net him the largest contract in league history. Name one person on the planet that doesn't sign that. When/if he does, then he cannot be traded for at least a year, by rule.

Lastly, look at Klutch Sports roster of clients. Outside of LeBron, the biggest named players are John Wall, Eric Bledsoe, Ben Simmons, and Tristan Thompson. Simmons is the only other one in a "big" market. The only one player that plays for the Lakers? Kentavious Caldwell-Pope.

This are easily attainable facts to the media that they blatantly disregard. Oh, lastly, Paul George, Kawhi Leonard, and Jimmy Butler have all pretty much said they don't want to play with LeBron, so there's that too. Whatever.

Oh, and another thing, people talk about his mansion in LA. OK? So what? Summers in LA > NOLA. Also, the most beloved player in NOLA history (Drew Brees) has a house in San Diego he spends every summer in...omg he's going to the Chargers! Give me a break

Kawhi turned down the supermax from SA. They would have given him one.

Kawhi is an idiot, and everyone thinks he's an idiot, and he doesn't care about his image for whatever reason.
AD does care, and isn't an idiot.

Kawhi probably drives a 20 year old piece of crap car and lives in a one bedroom apartment with no furniture.
