he was blessed with marty hurley's influence in south louisiana which gave him a competent drumline.

Shocking lack of diversity. Wait til Mayor Broome sees this.

Last year, not a single halftime show featured the Golden Girls!
Now this is some bull shite! IMO, and I'm being serious, this is a larger issue than fan attendance after halftime.
You bring back the Golden Girls during the halftime performances; you bring back the fans in the second half... period

need to up the standards for the GGs, starting to look pretty thick and skanky

this could be something that is beyond the control of the directors. or they could be deciding to be leaner. either way, they're succeeding. tiger band looked great and sounded great, even if they are smaller.
Irish LSU Fan: 4. Really? Deciding to be leaner? This is clear BS. With incomplete instrumentation, the sound of the band cannot be as good with previous directors. 20 tubas versus 32 tubas makes a big difference.
Bottom line....the band has declined in numbers and talent. They used to cut around 100 just to get down to 325. Now, they take whatever walks in the door and still can't make 325!!
Yeahhhh, they're not deciding to be leaner. That's BS. In terms of the scholarships and music majors, I agree LSU could invest more. I wasn't a music major myself, but I recognized how much we benefited from having so many music majors in the ensemble. LSU should have 28+ tubas and tons of trumpets (56+). And the elite 8 piccolos. Anything less (or more on the woodwind side) and they're not recruiting hard enough.

I keep coming back to this thread to look at the Golden Girls pic.

Never really heard of a feud between the 2. Tiger girls are generally more athletic because they are LSU’s dance team. Golden girls only do football games whil TG do a multitude of LSU events and aren’t limited to head nods, arm movements and twirls.
Tiger girls are really good to, they’ve won several national dance competitions.

What years were you in Tiger Band?
i know i was coming down on frank and linda but, we never wanted tiger band to be a high level competition band. there was a group of us who marched in corps so we got that out of our system during the summer. we just wanted it to be simple and to have fun. we never expected much out of them and they got the job done. having said that, some people are romanticizing the past a bit. let's not act like they were top award winning marching band experts.
the new crew - they seem to be doing a very good job to me. i don't know them but i know about them from people in the biz. they have good reputations. the product i'm seeing on the field is appropriate for the circumstance and the band still sounds freaking incredible.
i don't like the idea of phasing out the golden girls. they are awesome and add a great element to the show. they work super hard and they are good dancers. the golden girls could easily perform the same routines as the tiger girls if they chose to and had adequate rehearsal time. they are top notch dancers. they have always been way, way superior to other dancer groups in college bands

Would rather just watch.

the quality has remained undiminished
I agree that Tiger Band still sounds great. I just wish they were bigger and louder. Even before their numbers declined, Tiger Band was already one of the smaller bands in the SEC. Granted, bigger doesn't necessarily equal better as far as marching bands go, but having a powerful sound is important at football games.
Now back to the supposed feud between the Golden Girls and Tiger Girls. I'm glad that the Tiger Girls are now a part of LSU's football game day experience. Hopefully, they will remain so from now on. If the Golden Girls are upset that they are no longer being featured during halftime shows, they need to take the matter up with the band directors, since they are an auxiliary group of Tiger Band.

What awards have they received?
Huffington Post Top 10 in the country, Rated as the top band in the SEC BY THE BAND DIRECTORS IN THE SEC, Sudler Award, etc.
Once again....what has the current regime received?

Watch videos of each and get back to me
i have. they're basically identical.
If you honestly think LSU and Ohio State are "identical," then YOU don't know anything about drill design. I even gave you a hint (velocity). But, you don't know what that is, do you?

frank and linda knew very little about marching band
If that were the case, how did LSU receive the Sudler (from the Sudler Foundation web site) "The Sudler Trophy will be awarded biannually to a college or university marching band which has demonstrated the highest of musical standards and innovative marching routines and ideas, and which has made important contributions to the advancement of the performance standards of college marching bands over a number of years." Are you such a "homer" for the current regime that you cannot recognize any of this? Also, what has Dennis ever done? What has Damon ever done? These two are clueless. So much so they don't even realize how bad it is.

With incomplete instrumentation
who said this is the case?
I can count. From around 2005 to 2015, the LSU trumpet numbers were between 65 - 80. The tuba numbers were 30 - 32 (Good instrumentation is 1 tuba per 10 members/325 = 32). The band had the instrumentation THEY WANTED because they cut around 100 to get there. The current band situation is MUCH different.
quote:
now, others have caught up and are paying more
Like who? What SEC band is paying more than LSU to participate in marching band?
quote:
and still can't make 325!
prove that you know this is not beyond their control
Of course they have control.....RECRUIT HARDER. Oh, maybe they are and students are still NOT signing up to be in the Damon/Dennis shite show. Maybe high school band directors around the country are advising their students not to be a part of this stuff.

They're both equally hot, but tiger girls are more athletic. So they'd win in a fight.
Golden girls have richer dads though, so they'd win in a lawsuit.
One of the best posts on the rant this year! True. True.

I apologize if it sounded like I meant the talent of the musicians. I know several members of Tigerband and they're some of the best musicians I know. However, one of the previous posts mentioned that interest in the CGs and GGs were down from past years, possibly going more towards the Tiger Girls; that was the talent that I was talking about.
Also, if the band were truly moving towards a DCI look, perhaps one day we will see the colorguard integrated into the show drill more than on the outsides like a picture frame. Just a thought, I could be wrong.

Golden girls are flag girls. Tiger girls passed them up a decade ago. Tiger girls are legit dancers.
Sorry. That's all there is to it.

Over and over, the same thing from Irish. It's like groundhog day with you.

If you were to copy/paste a bit more than you did, it would be clear that this can be awarded ONCE to any college band (as other responders have already mentioned more than once). Also, more copying/pasting would make clear that "any committee member or band director may submit up to three bands for consideration." So initially, any Tom, Dick or Harry band director can submit up to three bands for consideration.
Furthermore, the Sudler award started in 1982. One might wonder why it took so long for LSU to win the award? According to your line of thinking, a "regime" change (as you like to call it) should IMMEDIATELY result in more accolades than the wildest imagination can conjure up. Then why did it originally take a full 20 years for TGBFTL to win it?

Also, what has Dennis ever done? What has Damon ever done? These two are clueless. So much so they don't even realize how bad it is.
Give them some time. Surely they can win *something* within 20 years!

This is 100% true. Golden Girl tryout numbers are down (a lot) and the color guard numbers are so low, they have resorted to letting a guy spin a flag.
