This show is a total abortion if you grew up a Tom Clancy fan. If you’ve never read any of the books or even watched the original movies I guess you could be entertained by it, but it’s so poorly produced with such a thinly veiled political axe to grind that it loses everything. Jim Greer cursing every two minutes and is a Muslim? Come on. Jack Ryan refusing to engage in stock market tips? Nope. Yeah we created the terrorist too, lame. The whole show plays like a final project from a Berkley film major.

While I like the actor, I don’t know why they turned Greer into a quasi a-hole and a Muslim. That is totally necessary.
fricking Amazon

He’s a decent Jack Ryan though. Ryan isn’t a badass. He’s an analyst that writes books for the CIA.

I agree, Bunk is one of my favorite characters of all time, and this role really degrades that character to me. It's like they were too lazy to even read what Jim Greer was supposed to be, so they just said "be Bunk, except you work for the CIA now and are a muslim." So lazy.

Like it or not, most enemies are created.
The Mujhadeen. Had we not deserted them there likely wouldn't have been an Al Qaeda or Taliban.
ISIS is a direct response to the Iraqi war.
Hezbollah is a reaction to what they saw as illegal rapid Jewish settling.
Nazis were a reaction to the terms of WW1.
AS much as we want to say it's good vs evil, it's hard to quantify it in that way.
Everyone I listed is an "evil" group, yet it's not like they don't have some validity to their core beliefs.
You have to understand the enemy and know why they are the enemy.
Communism wouldn't had existed had the serfdom system not lasted so long in Russia.
The African warlords are a reaction to the power vacuum left by colonials.
It's not saying any one of these was intentionally created.
Saying that most people have a reason, right or wrong for their actions.

I’m 3 episodes in. I’m enjoying it.
I’ve read every single thing Clancy wrote including his case studies on subs. I’ll admit I haven’t kept up with all of the new stuff since his passing, although Greaneys stories are typically better as I believe he worked with Tom on finishing his last novel.
Yes they have Jack in the field more than he is in the novels, but this far they haven’t turned him into Jason Bourne. He’s always been able to handle himself and he was a Marine. I even like them playing up the boyscout angle. It’s one of the chief complaints about Jack the character: he’s the ultimate do gooder and his moral compass is never wrong even when faced with the ultimate uncertainty. Jack not giving his future father in law insider trading tips is 100% in line with what I’d expect Ryan to do.
I’m not crazy about Greer. Jim was a Navy man and although the book Greer is most definitely not James Earl Jones, the characterization is great. But making Greer a frickup isn’t fantastic.
I enjoy being entertained and I’m trying to keep this as a separate world. Jack cut his teeth in the Cold War, and that world is completely foreign to a modern audience. This is the new world of espionage and it’s a problem Clancy even explored in his later novels especially with Clark and Chavez and later with Jack Jr. The show has potential and I could see them introducing Clark and Mary Pat and later Ding as the show progresses. And you can make Clark a badass ruthless killer in this show.

They were a product of the Lebanese civil war, and the Israeli occupation of southern Lebanon.

Have we done much better the second time around in Afghanistan? We stayed to establish a government, no?

On episode 2. I thought the awful accent from Abbie Cornish in Three Billboards was because she was trying to do some southern thing, but after hearing her in Jack Ryan, its just because she is awful at an American accent.

I like the show so far. The Greer angle is weird, but wasn't Greer one of the guys who knew John Kelly was killing off drug dealers?
He's a really tough character to nail down, so I don't mind them changing him.

I liked the show. Not great but an easy binge and the wife was in to it so that helped. The people complaining about Greer but not mentioning the drone pilot at all I find weird. I'm no Tom Clancy devotee so the Greer stuff didn't really bother me,I honestly expected them to make more of a point of him being a Muslim or at least use it in a more dramatic way but they didn't.
The haunted drone pilot that killed someone without orders and then went to Syria to apologize to another family for killing the wrong man just felt so out of place.
Also, unrelated I googled Abbie Cornish because I was not familiar with her and it turns out she has/had a rap career as MC Dusk. I don't have anything to add but I thought someone else should know that.

It’s the epitome of everything that is wrong with this show.
They make an action series, and they feel obligated to apologize for it in every scene.
Jack actually wrings his hands after shooting someone. What is he supposed to be, Lady Macbeth?
Not to drag politics into this, but if Zou was writing a review, he’d call this the Soy Boys Jack Ryan.

Who knew that Tom Clancy fans would be whinier bitches about this show than the Muslim hating righties.
Glad I had no expectations going in, thought it was a great 8 hour run.

I'm enjoying it so far. Theme song sounds like Westworld.

I don't get the drone pilot. What was with the cuck that beat him up but didn't take his money?
What was his sorry about?
Other than injuring rotten teeth what did he do?
