They need to step it up in season 2. i think the girlfriend was miscast. she has a weird look

I haven’t read the books, but she’s good enough looking to believe she would be with jack and not drop dead gorgeous enough to be unbelievable in her role as a world renowned epidemiologist and someone who had to resort to online dating

My gosh what a pussy you are. It’s an entertaining TV show, no need to overanalyze.

Hey reasonable minds can certainly disagree. I’m glad you like the show and find it entertaining. I didn’t, but I fully acknowledge that is likely because I am a big fan of the older books/movies. I hope you have a great rest of the week and don’t catch too much rain from the hurricane.

They missed a HUGE opportunity not setting this series up as Jack Ryan Jr.

The books featuring junior are set up perfectly to be TV series seasons.

And Jim Greer being muslim adds nuance but will flame the hardened Clancy fan

As far as the drone pilot, IMHO, they should have played this as him being turned by foreign agents (the cuck and his lady friend). That would have made more sense in the Tom Clancy universe.

What did the "cuck scene" do in terms of adding to the storyline?

I don't get it except for explaining how an O-1 in the air force could afford to travel to Syria

I enjoyed it, but being that I have read Hunt for Red October, Patriot Games, Clear and Present Danger, The Sum Of All Fears, and Rainbow 6, I do not find that they really captured the essence of what a Tom Clancy story is about. They reduce the moving parts significantly to simplify things for sure.

This show was more like a Brad Thor story in a Tom Clancy costume.

Greer being muslim was purely to check the "not all muslims are bad" box.

Having that drone pilot flip and become an ISIS insider would be pure Clancy. It would have provided an awesome next season plot where ISIS uses the guy to hack in and steal an armed Predator drone and have it flying around killing good guys. So much they could have done with that character rather than having him fly to Syria and hand some kid a stack of money. Just dumb writing.

There's a book in the Jack Jr series that has a chinese hacker take over the military drone programs...that book would make an awesome season 2

To me, the whole "apology" scene wreecked of a female director editorializing her viewpoints on drone strikes.

They failed miserably to capture the essence of the Jack Ryan series.

It was like the director and writers had only watched the movies rather than reading the books.

I liked it as a standalone series but came up short as a jack Ryan series

Can someone tell me WTF purpose the drone pilot served? Why did they waste half an episode of him nailing some dudes wife and getting beat up?

What a huge writing gaffe

Finished it last night. I enjoyed it. Easy, simple watch that kept me entertained.

Wonder if Lloyd Braun had any of the Chinese gum with him while in captivity?

Honestly I think this is why it is popular today and fails so miserable with the original Clancy fans. The original Clancy stuff was cerebral and reinforced traditional values like duty, honor, and country.

This show is just simple entertainment, it isnt close to intelligence operations that are undertaken in the modern world. But I can't hate on people if they enjoy switching off and watching something for fun.

I would agree with your conclusion, but this Jack Ryan isn’t much of a man.

It has little if anything to do with the British, or the French.

It’s not colonialism.

It’s the culture of the people that live there.

Their beliefs make it very difficult to operate in the modern world. Many basic western concepts, like win-win scenarios, don’t exist.

I have a dim view of political science, but that is a question they’ve looked at, and you could say answered.

Terrorism isn’t correlated with poverty.

Terrorists tend to be better off than their peers, which makes sense, because these are men, and women, who are dying for ideas.

Not trying to be a jerk, and I understand why you wrote that. It’s conventional wisdom, and something Obama said at least a few times.

It’s not accurate though.
