Giving him the richest contract in college football history isn’t really what poaching a coach looks like.

In your opinion, after Jimbo’s last season, would you have spent $75 million of LSU’s money over a 10 year commitment?

When I read those terms, I was glad Alleva did not throw that much green at Fisher. If we paid Fisher that much, we might not have been able to keep Aranda.

It’s a valid argument to say it was a bad idea to throw that money at Fisher.

It’s also a valid argument to say that, comparatively, it was a far worse idea to make Orgeron the HC.

It still pisses me off the contradicting statements he made about "fit" between the basketball and football coach hires. I mean he really thinks we are idiots.

Such a dumb argument... he recruited/ plucked the #1 QB out of Saban's back yard and developed him into a Heisman winner. Recruit, develop, and win...Thats what good coaches do.

I remember LSU fans bitching about paying Saban too much.

No. But I wouldn’t base the entire hire off of 1 season. Especially since his starting QB was injured the entire year and they started a true freshman. Those facts may hurt your argument though
.

If the decision was: Go cheap and get Orgeron or spend 4x that and get Jimbo, then I chose Jimbo every fuching time.

Let me as you this:

Would you rather spend 20 million for 5 years of O or 75 for 10 years of Jimbo?

You truly have no concept on how much money the football program makes every year, do you?

POS Alleva turned it over to TU Alum Ballard then took the cheap way out.
Now the excuses to lay the foundation for a mediocre or a bad season have been thrown right out front and center.

The AD had one job that mattered. He threw up all over himself.

damn, that might be the post of the year...

Yep, but Ballard is finally gone, and hopefully the new BOS won’t be a bunch of good ole boy LA cronies.

It may be a long shot, but at least we know it’s not all the same people.

I was going to make my own thread today..but I'll just put it here.

Anyone else still having trouble believing we hired Orgeron? I still feel like its twilight zone time.

A @#@#423 failure of a headcoach with zero other suitors.

"Negotiating" prowess like that should get you one thing: fired

Along with the search firm if Herman was the only guy they brought him.

Well, at least Alleva is consistent. This is just further proof of the LSU Admin's total incompetence for hiring the nations most useless AD. A house cleaning is far overdue.

thats ironic considering that LSU fans are obsessed with beating bama and Herman did it with tOSU's third string QB in 2014.

Bobby Dodd wanted to coach at Duke, but said Alleva wouldn’t negotiate.
Cutcliffe was Joes third choice, forced on him by alumni.

No use to hire a new coach until we have a new ad first.
New president would of course be too much to even dream about.

Allegedly LSU offered more money per yr but would not offer more than 5 yrs... I doubt that we would have guaranteed 100% either

I'm not defending Alleva, and Jimbo and Herman shouldn't have been the only two choices before Orgeron, but this statement is contradictory to your point. We were Florida in this scenario. UF was a better job but got beat out by one alma mater and one school that offered an environment the coach wanted more, a familiar conference and city that recruits itself. It happens.

Alleva should have understood that and had more options, especially with all the time he had, but there was nothing he could have done to get Herman. He had been telling people for 3 years he was going back to UT. Jimbo obviously wasn't going to settle for anything less than unfettered loyalty in the form of a $75M contract. The only coach that can demand that kind of unquestioned commitment from a big time program is Saban, no way LSU should or would have signed off on that for Jimbo.

Take away Dave Aranda and Orgeron doesn't win 6 games last year.
