no surprise that someone like orgeron wanted this guy on the team

I haven’t followed the entire story. He’s only been charged, right? Could he be suspended until the outcome? Charges could be dropped or reduced, found not guilty, etc.
IMO you got to kick him off the team regardless of due process. He got arrested and didn’t tell anyone about it, and apparently didn’t even plan to.

He can probably hit the juco ranks, sign with Bama or UGA , have all charges dropped, and suit up for the Crimson Tide next year with no suspension.

I agree, the lying doesn’t help his case. I think if there was a chance, it was just ruined. You have to let him go now.
Just curious about the case.
Just curious about the case.

Gee, this young man has been in the heat while all of you have been in air conditioning.

Players have been getting arrested at LSU and other schools LONG before this kid was arrested. Hell, Billy Cannon wouldn't have won the Heisman or become an LSU legend if the coaching staff was quick to boot him after his transgressions (then again, purportedly Cannon always owned up to them)
It's certainly is not a good look that the kid was arrested and I understand (and agree with) LSU suspending him. However, I still believe in innocent until proven guilty and I'm not exactly in favor of potentially ruining a kid's life before he's even been convicted of a crime. If the kid did it, then he SHOULD suffer the consequences. But we live in a society who likes to find people GUILTY first, then make them prove their innocence. That's not how our legal system works

I would just like to know if there was any chance of giving the kid his chance at due process before kicking him out the program or has there been more information to point towards his guilt.
He was suspended not kicked out of the program.
Here's how the rule reads:
Legal Violations
When a student-athlete violates a local, state or federal law and the misconduct involves a violent action, drugs and/or a felony charge, the student-athlete may be suspended from participation in intercollegiate athletics until the charges have been addressed by the legal system.
If such action is taken, the student-athlete is given written notification of the suspension, signed by the respective Head Coach and the Director of Athletics. The student-athlete may thereafter request, in writing, a meeting with the Director of Athletics. This request
must be submitted within 72 hours of the notice of suspension. Based on all available information, the Director of Athletics may lift or modify the suspension, or leave it in place until the case has been decided by the legal system. A determination regarding further
action by the Department and the University is made on a case-by-case basis once the charge has been resolved by the court.
While on suspension, the student-athlete may not practice or compete; however, his/her financial aid will remain in place. Further, the student-athlete's name will remain on the squad list and he/she may utilize student-athlete support services, such as the weight and
training rooms, and academic support services.
501:6
By suspending the student-athlete the Department and the University are in no way prejudging the situation; rather, such action is taken in order to protect the intercollegiate athletics program, and specifically, the student-athlete's team from negative media attention. Moreover, it is also assumed the accused student-athlete will have neither the time nor the mental concentration required for effective sports participation until the matter has been resolved.

Wasn’t it said before that Taylor hid this whole situation from everyone hoping it would go away?
Posted on 8/13/18 at 3:54 pm to The Pirate King
He’ll lead Auburn in tackles in 2020.

Let the kid come back. Talent comes first, character second... if you ever want to beat bama

I think you misunderstood my post. My ignoring of due process is because he did not inform any of the coaches of his arrest, which I understand is team policy.
Him acting like it didn’t happen could bite the team in the arse if they played him without knowing if the situation.

I don’t know a ton either but from what I understand that is what transpired. I don’t like to rush to judgement when kids mess up, but he had an obligation to his team to disclose it

Yes, I know, I moreorless just added that in as a possibility.

One reason I like it is that it takes a coach somewhat out of the equation and liability to the program with it.

I'll be shocked if he ever stops foot on campus again

Bright side: if he's auditioning for Last Chance U - he has impressed.
