Happened last year. Body-cam footage was just released.

Resisting arrest is killing more people than cancer

Thanks, Gravy. Appreciate the zero context.

I don't think it was excessive. They used the stun gun on him twice (one wasn't effective and other shocked the cop ) and he kept resisting. Outside of shooting him, the chokehold was probably the next non-lethal option.

they should have just talked nicely to him and de-escalated the situation.

I think his third grade teacher tried this before he dropped out.

It all comes down to this.

If the police have a warrant for someone's arrest and they say "you are under arrest" and the person says "frick you", do you believe the police should:

A. Leave because the guy doesn't want to be arrested that day. Try again later when he is in a better mood.

B. Wait an indefinite amount of time and talk to the guy until he decides he wants to be arrested or gets tired and goes to sleep or the police come to the end of their shift and have to go home.

C. After determining he has no plans to surrender peacefully, the police enforce the legal arrest warrant by the use of progressive force.

Because one of those three is going to happen. If you believe in C, which is what the courts have ruled is reasonable, then you have to be prepared for the fact that some people are going to fight to the death. It's unfortunate but just the way it goes.

Society used to recognize that some people are frick sticks and refuse to cooperate with the rules that make us a lawful society and that sometimes you have to force them. Of course, if you are a complete anarchist then none of this matters to you and you believe that we all should just run around naked with our hair on fire doing whatever the frick we want and that is A-OK.

I understand the reasoning to know why you are being arrested. Hell I'd want to know and not just come and see and we will tell you later, so failure on the police part for not having the warrant with them or knowing what it was for.

That being said, I also wouldn't risk my life over it.

I agree with your post but did you hear at the end, this cop and the deceased already had a run in with each other?

And, they could have shot the tires on the tractor, yes you read that correctly, that he was driving.

Seems like things would be a lot simpler if people would obey law enforcement..

He was probably doing 32mph on the main drag through Bunkie, and then refused to call the officer "sir".

98% chance this guy knew what he had a warrant for.

Also a 98% chance he was just being an a-hole.

unfortunately it cost him his life.
