Not when taxpayers are on the hook for $8 million annually...not exactly the definition of "giving back"
, this sounds like the conversation I had Saturday on the PT where a guy said LeBron only gives about 2-3% of his salary annually. Nevermind the fact we're talking about a guy who pledged $40MM for the Akron scholarships, he's not giving a very large percentage of his salary, so they want to diminish him.
The I Promise school isn't happening without LeBron and his foundation. That's a fact.
ETA - it also wouldn't happen without the Akron Public School system.

mean I didn't hear one time last week that it was a public school. All you heard was Lebron was paying for all these kids.
I could easily have looked, but everyone here acting like was obvious since it was a public school must have done a bit more work than me on it
Yeah all the articles said it was a partnership deal with the public school system.
It wasn't getting any mentions on talk shows or Twitter though.

Public school people are weird.
Just thought I'd point that out.

Because we all knew it was a public school from the jump.

Meh, it could have been a charter school or something like that.

typical democrat trying to take credit for someone elses hard work

His foundation did put up almost $2 million for the startup of the school and expects to contribute $2 million each year, so 20% of the total operating cost. That's still good.
BUT HE DIDN’T DO ENOUGH!!!! HE HAS LOTS OF MONEY!!! HE’LL NEVER BE BETWR THAN MJ!!!! REEEEE!!!!
And this is coming from someone whom is indifferent about Bron Bron

charter schools receive tax payer funding
the only way it wouldn't receive tax payer funding is if it were completely private, and that would have probably opened up all kinds of controversy for Lebron concerning what kids got in and what kids didn't

Doing my math if Lebron invested 50 million in various companies like Coke (medium share price good dividend yield), using Coke's current 0.39 per share/qtr, LeBron could generate roughly 11 million a year for his school.

maybe he should go on Shark Tank and present the idea to them.

I'm just saying, he's probably the one athlete who could genuinely fund an entire school on his own if he truly wanted to.

You might want to do that math again.

Okay help me out here:
There quarterly is 0.39 cents per share, 4 QTR's in a year, so that's 1.56 annually per share correct?
KO stock is 46.42 currently so shares are roughly 1,072,501
Edit: just saw my error haha!

$50M / ~$45 price of KO stock = 1.1M shares
1.1M x $1.56 = $1.7M
1.1M x $1.56 = $1.7M

Wow,so you knew 80% of annual costs annually were gonna be paid for by taxpayers???

Thanks.
Looking at some other companies with lower stock prices and higher yield could get him closer.
Looking at another Cheasapeake Energy:
1.63 price / 0.25 annual div
50 mil / 1.63 = 30,674,846 shares x 0.25 = 7.67mil
Anyways, besides my ugly math error, he could definitely generate income close enough to do what I'm suggesting.
