of Akron...up to
$ 8 million ANNUALLY.

quote:

It's a district-owned building. The district will hire and pay the teachers and administration. Kids will ride district buses to school. And they will all eat the free breakfast and lunch the district gives all students.

quote:

I Promise will eventually cost about $8 million a year to run out of the district's regular budget, covered mostly by shifting students, teachers and money from other schools, the district says.

"The coverage made it look like the whole thing is his," said district spokesman Mark Williamson. "He did a lot, but taxpayers should know it's their investment too."

Gee,didn't hear much about this from ESPN and just about every other media outlet who covered the story

Everyone with a brain already knew this was the case. Lebron is basically just putting up scholarship money. Of course it's going to be about 8 years before anyone actually graduates and uses that.

Maybe Mr. Williamson should put some glasses on to appear smart and maybe people will listen.

I always figured it would still be somewhat operated using some tax money. Nothing really to see here.

His foundation did put up almost $2 million for the startup of the school and expects to contribute $2 million each year, so 20% of the total operating cost. That's still good.

Lebron could set up a dividend portfolio and generate 8 mil himself alone every year. He has that kinda money.

Anyone with a functioning mind knew that some of the cost would be handed to taxpayers since, you know, it's part of Akron Public Schools.

Not when taxpayers are on the hook for $8 million annually...not exactly the definition of "giving back"

And yet, that's not how it was really portrayed. At all.

Both things can be true, ijs.

What should he "give back" then? He did something. Something more than others are doing. Should he build a private school for all at-risk K-8 children in Akron? Should he be financially responsible for the entire school Akron school system? If the financial terms weren't favorable for the school district, don't you think the the Akron government would have passed on the offer?

This is stupid.

It is a public school. Of course it was going to cost the taxpayers annually. That is how public schools work.

Do you know what didn’t cost the taxpayers?

The price of building a new school building.

So LeBron is sending kids to college when he has the reading level of a fourth grader.

Brilliant.

I mean I didn't hear one time last week that it was a public school. All you heard was Lebron was paying for all these kids.

I could easily have looked, but everyone here acting like was obvious since it was a public school must have done a bit more work than me on it

It is great. Any stable person wouldn't argue against that. It's the wall to wall coverage that makes it sound like he just adopted every child in the Akron area.
