A month ago, it looked like this season could be good, could be bad - but we had a good recruiting class.

ESPNU radio this morning was playing the "yaw yaw" song again while talking about LSU's situation. Does anyone really think that anything less than a double digit victory result this year will do anything but further hurt the program?

Seriously, no bs, how does Ed O earn some respect in the coaching community and lock down the state (right now he can't even lock down kids that went to HS on LSU's campus) without having a 10+ win season?

If LSU wants to salvage this 2019 class it needs to have a good season

You’ll get a bunch of false narratives but here is the truth- recruiting classes are much more a reflection of where you are going, not where you are.

So in December if we have 5 loses and we’re talking about the next guy then Louisiana will get raided. You’ll still get some diehard kids (stingley) but any kids on the fence aren’t coming here.

Our defense will be nasty so basically the future of our program, O’s job security, Allevas job security and possibly F Kings job security will all be determined by Steve Einsminger in 2018.

It’s easy to say give them time before you’re actually on the cusp of not going to a bowl. LSU fans haven’t been there in a while. It’ll get nasty if we go back.

ETA: But If his class begins to crumble and the losses pile up O may honestly be fired.

I’ve went on record several times saying give him 3 but I won’t stand by that if we go to the independence bowl. With that said I think he has an 8.5 million dollar buyout. They’re not going to commit 20 million dollars to buyouts.

Alleva is a joke.

He doesn't?

He has to win. No way around that.

O got something for nothing when he got Alleva to hire him. The rest of the public won't be that charitable.

I'm not sure that's really possible. He can keep his job with a 7-8 win season but he's not going to magically be a respected head coach without showing he can bring our program back to a place of prominence by taking a step forward this year. If he's able to do that, the recruits and the respect naturally will follow. Another middling 7-9 win effort and recruiting will be a real battle this offseason.

You wanted Hootie Jones over Jamal Adams?

You don't like Joe Burrow, Breiden Fehoko, Jonathon Giles, Thaddeus Moss or Cole Tracy?

Is Dylan Moses going to be better than Grant Delpit or the #1 LB in the nation in Jacob Phillips?

Locking down the state gets you players like Brandon Harris as your starting quarterback.

Win...and keep winning at a rate equal to or better than the coach we fired. It's that simple.

Like all respect, it has to be earned. And the more he craves it and asks for it through his surrogates before earning it, the more people will call it out and creepy and disingenuous.

What I think is illustrative is that people continue to act like there's nothing he could do to be respected, lone before he's actually done anything worthy of that respect. Shouldn't we wait until he earns it...or is that too much to ask?

Whats at stake is keeping our place in the national and conference pecking order of besides a select few other schools we have a complete program. Talent, support, and resources are all there to have a contender.

This is the proving year for O, if he wins 10 games regardless that will be a success. If its 9 or 8 wins it just depends on who we beat and how we look. If we win 9 and upset somebody like a UGA or Bama but drop a game to a team we shouldnt lose to atleast it will show progress.

Only a handful of other schools where 3 second round picks and a third rounder constitutes an off year for Tigers moving on to the NFL level. Do I think a lot of the guys drafted last year out play there slots yeah but guys were not drafted as high, our recruiting class ranking was not as high and we lost out at the end on some major long time targets, and most importantly our true record and level of play seemed to go down even though we did get better as the year progressed.

New OC same QB questions and since Miles, we have the talent but our program's reputation will drop which will have lasting effects program wide. Last year still felt like sort of a grace period for O, no reasons now, his OC, handpicked QB, major D-1 transfers at key positions of need and multiple staff changes, now or never.

If he goes 10-2 and beats either Bama or GA, but preferably Bama and then wins bowl game(11-2). I think that may sell players that he has what it takes to win championships if they get on board. Gonna be hard to do though with the schedule.

This year is critical for LSU. With Fisher at A&M and Smart building up Georgia, LSU must have at least a 10 win season, or we will take a big hit in recruiting.

We already lost a Destrehan player to Georgia. Saban and Fisher will try to raid Louisiana as well.

LSU has to win this year, or recruiting is going to take a big hit.

What will he have to do to earn respect? Hell, Miles won it all and struggled to get respect here, let alone nationally. So, O will have to start (this year) by winning every game LSU is favored to win and 1/2 the games they are not favored-- while being competitive in any losses. He will need to beat Bama this year or next. He will need to compete for SEC title this year or next.
These are all minimums to have a chance at getting respect here and nationally. But following what happened to Miles, there are no guarantees.

LSU HC should seek to win. Who cares what pundits say about respect?

While I really think O will be back in 2019 as HC, I think this year is really going to set his trajectory at LSU. If he wins big, he'll go a long way to silencing his critics. If he loses, I doubt he gets fired, but he'll be essentially a lame duck coach going into 2019.

Re: recruiting, O was on a roll until this weekend. It was a huge misstep not to have a big event this weekend. Maybe Emery was headed to UGA all along, maybe he was on the fence and this visit there sealed it for him. Either way, LSU was caught at the plate looking and should have had something bigger planned.

Winning this season will go a long way for O's tenure here, and the recruiting class for 2019.

Having another 8-10 win season that continues the LSU identity crisis saga, and probably doesn't move the needle on getting new vision and leadership, and forces everyone into bad decisions that further create situations to continue in that very same morass.

If we don't have any embarrassing losses this year like last and we at least go 8-4 with this schedule, I would consider that a success. So no Troy's or Moo State's this year. UGA and Bama were both in the NCG last year and both should be just as good again. Yes we get both at home so that should make it competitive. I don't think we need to go 10-2 if we are competitive in every game, meaning in it till the end or a one possession game in a loss.
