What they gotta say about LSU:
Pretty much sums up the voice of TD!
What they gotta say about LSU:
quote:
"I like Ed (Orgeron), I really do. He can win there, and maybe he can develop into a guy that stays there a while. But he has to let his coaches coach. What he did with (former offensive coordinator) Matt Canada was ridiculous. You paid him all that money to get on board, and then a couple weeks into the season, you’re bailing on him. I don’t know all the specifics and if Canada wasn’t a good fit with the rest of the staff, but I know what Canada has accomplished in this game. He knows what he’s doing. If you’re an LSU fan, your hope is Ed does, too -- and that his new OC will fit."
quote:
"The quarterback has been a problem there since Les (Miles) first started out. They haven’t been able to figure it out for years. The one season with (Zach) Mettenberger has really been the only time they’ve been able to pressure defenses with the passing game since they won it all. To me it doesn’t matter who the guy is because whoever is playing quarterback will have new guys all around him. If a rebuilt line isn’t a big enough question, who are they going to throw to, and who’s going to run with power like they always have to keep pressure of the quarterback?"
quote:
"A lot of questions there on offense. And (Steve) Ensminger is your guy to run that show? That hire will define Ed, no question about it."
quote:
"I don’t know how Dave Aranda hasn’t been more of a factor in these Power 5 job searches. His defenses there have been fantastic, better than the groups he put together at Wisconsin -- and they were really good. They had a lot of young guys play last year, and they’re going to be even better this year."
Pretty much sums up the voice of TD!

It already has. It shows what O values most, and it isn't "best person for the job".

I mean, Russell was good in 2005 and 2006, Flynn was good in 2007, Mettenberger was good in 2013 and serviceable in 2012

Savage.
So the thing he was hired to do, he didn't do. Yet, "he's changed."

“I’m a changed man. I learned from my mistakes.”

We can sit here all day and blame the Canada experiment on relationship issues, but I'd love to know how that goes if Ed allows him to coach.

However, his most recent stint with the Tigers yielded unqualified results: over the final eight games of the 2016 season that Ensminger served as interim OC in place of Cam Cameron, LSU’s offense:
increased scoring from 21 points per game to 32 — scoring 38 or more in five of the eight games Ensminger called
increased yards per play from 5.7 to 7.1
set a school record for total offense in a conference game (634 yards versus Missouri)
set two different individual school rushing records (Leonard Fournette vs. Ole Miss and Derrius Guice vs. Texas A&M).
The reason this holds value is precisely that it doesn’t sit in a vacuum. Whether the offense should have been that good or not, 2016 LSU football team wasn’t going to put up those numbers under Cam Cameron. They weren’t even going to come close.
quote:
However, taking the point further regarding the 2016 offense versus better defenses, let’s use Bill Connelly’s opponent-adjusted advanced statistics:
under Ensminger, LSU’s average offensive percentile performance — i.e., a measure of how well a unit performed compared to an average college offense, adjusted for defensive quality — increased from 41 percent to 73 percent. That means the Tigers improved from a unit that was barely in the top 60 percent of all 130 FBS teams to one that was in the top 30 percent.
LSU’s average offensive percentile under Matt Canada in 2017? 54 percent, with an S&P+ ranking of 42. In 2016, the Tigers finished 22nd in offensive S&P+, counting both Ensminger’s and Cameron’s games.
There is no credible way to deny, at any level, that Ensminger improved LSU’s offense over his stretch of running it.
LSU and Steve Ensminger: How Did We Get Here?

When's the last time an LSU team could only muster 13 first downs, 270 yards, and 24:05 TOP against State?

you had that article locked and loaded. this is from the same brainiacs that told us brandon harris would be awesome in 2016.

The last comment is Saban. He’s trying to get Aranda out of here.

You mean in that loss to Bama? Yeah, we looked great losing for a seventh time in a row.

Bottom line that I can agree with... Ensminger better be the solution. O goes as E goes.

Canada was always the scapegoat to the Pro O crowd.

Flynn scored like you would expect a senior to (good enough), but his efficiency was completely awful.
Russell for one year (06) and Mett for one year (13), those were your actually good QBs. Russell in 2005 was Etling last year.
Sorry to say, but because LSU has been so awful to average most of the school's time, many of you can't gauge what actual good QB play is. The rest of the country considers what Flynn (07), Russell (05), Lee/JJ (11) and Etling (17) did to be mediocre at best.
Davey, Mauck, Russell, Mett. Four years in the last 18 have we had actually good QB play.

I am not a Canada fan by any means but how can we judge him when the DL coach is sticking his nose and interfering with the offense all year?
We better hope he doesn't do the same with Steve
