This board's fascination with blue collar jobs is odd

It's Louisiana. I think it's fair to say that 50% of the population simply doesn't work. 35% works in some blue collar field and the remaining 15% work in white collar or in a traditional office setting.

Yep. It's because our white collar economy is so terrible. Well paying blue collar jobs are more plentiful than office jobs.

I havent minded this class this semester. It is a pain in the arse with the requirements for a summer class, but still interesting. This last assignment is about psychoanalysis, fetishism, and feminism. I guess I feel more exposed? You could say. I dont see how this will help me earn more money though

Maybe a basic writing class would help you more.

Not sure if my degrees would be considered liberal arts, but they certainly weren't stem. Generally have seen that if you can develops skills, your good no matter the major. I met an art major who was a programmer a few months ago.

A major may close down certain opportunities in some ways but it's not a hard rule.

Liberal Arts degrees still make sense for a lot of people. They do NOT make sense for everyone.

I've been talking about this a lot with a conservative Liberal Arts professor I've been friends with since we were both Liberal Arts undergrads. He thinks most people would be better off doing more time in JUCO or community college to knock out core requirements without spending premium university money for classes that are taught by liberal activists.

A lot of time and money is wasted on fluff classes taught by liberal airheads who would be stuck waiting tables or serving coffee in the private sector.

*Edited to clarify.

It’s all about the university. Getting a global studies degree from NYU wouldn’t be a bad choice if they want to work in global affairs, government or an NGO.

Getting a global studies degree from southeastern would be another story.

Maybe I am high and writing a paper where I am auto correcting after.

Glad you are concerned with my writing at this time of night.

What school does your uncle attend?

Financially? Maybe - and that is assuming the kid doesn't go on to get a law degree, MBA, etc.
Honestly, with the current number of lawyers, blue collar might be a better choice over that.

I agree. I have a B.A. and work in an accounting department for a fairly large company. We generally like interviewing people with some kind of liberal arts background because they tend to communicate effectively and creatively approach solutions to problems.

Now, that doesn't mean a gender studies major should expect to land a financial analyst position upon graduation, but if they're willing to work hard and expand their knowledge of an industry, they can be successful.

One of our current directors was a Latin major and started out in the mail room of our company.

A friends son got a 36 on his act. Went to an art school in Memphis and took out student loans. Has his degree and is now working at a hobby lobby framing pictures for not much more than minimum wage. So no I wouldn’t.

I was waiting for the first comment about shekels. And people wonder why the left is destroying the right when it comes to influencing the youth.

90% of plumbers make more money than the entire population of BA holders. Those union trades make damn good money.

He said that becoming a plumber is a much wiser choice than wasting time on a useless degree like Global Studies at NYU.

95% of those that will reply to this question have no understanding of what a true liberal arts education entails.

I attended a liberal arts school. 18k/semester.

I would read the political board 24/7 than face another semester of the stuff they tried to push down my throat.

On the flip side, it was the only campus in Arkansas where you could drink on campus/on the way to class as long as you weren't shitfaced.

Pioneer I had no clue you attended college. I would have guessed 9th grade dropout from your posting.

To me, that may as well mean that it makes sense for no one.

Some people don’t want blue collar jobs or office jobs. One of the best times of my life was serving tables/cooking at a restaurant and I made jack shite. I’m not sure if I’ll ever be as consistently happy as I was then.

It's called spell check and a small arse phone screen with a touch of bad vision. No more.
