Nope. I have had many honest and open debates about many issues including guns. Everyone is entitles to their own opinions about the matter. I just highly doubt this particular case is as open minded about the other side. Maybe it is from my own experience at LSU with an English professor who could not rational how my debate was legitimate. She literally told me after that she just personally did not agree with the paper (which doesn't lessen any truth to the paper).

The fact you think the teacher assigned this because the author is too extreme and wants an honest discussion of how it is not reasonable tells me all I need to know.
So you never read or watch or listen to something you know you'll disagree with? Probably why you would rather be a plumber and roll around in human shite all day than go to college.

"I had one English professor that did this so All English professors are this way"
Do you realize how stupid that sounds?

I highly doubt this happened. You probably just wrote a shitty paper that was as one sided as this alleged book, but because it was your side of the argument you don't realize it was just as extreme.

Depends on the university, the degree, and and the person.
Getting an economics degree from the University of Chicago or an IR degree from Princeton or a history degree from Wisconsin is a little different than getting an art history degree from BFE State.

Nah, it's what I said.
You can believe whatever you want. Everyone's opinions vary on, well, everything. I don't believe that every single professor at LSU is pushing anti-gun rhetoric, or in your example religion. I just very highly doubt that debate will be open minded both ways from personal experience.

I didn't say anything about being a plumber. That was not something that interested me so I went to LSU and got a degree that is worth something.
ETA: It was not one sided as I made reference to both pros and cons. That B kept me from straight A's that semester so I did go see her about it after but grades were already turned in so nothing could be done.

LSU, and many other universities in the south, probably get a good bit of students who have been raised with extreme right leaning views. I imagine that as a college professor, your goal is not to "turn them all into lefties!!!".. but to introduce them to other viewpoints and try to round them out as people. The world would be a wonderful place if regardless of where you lean, all people were relatively moderate.
Most of the people from my hometown who never went to college are very extreme on the right side. Some disturbingly so. Those few who went to college are all pretty moderate (whether they lean left or right). You can tell the difference almost immediately.
Obviously, I'm not someone who thinks college is crucial. I back a good trade as much as anyone. But I see nothing wrong with college professors introducing students to a different worldview than the one they've had drilled into their heads by their parents since birth.

It’s liberal indoctrination. It’s literally there in the title, LL. Liberal arts. Why can’t we have conservative arts?

I had plenty of college professors who obviously leaned left - and out of those, only one really tried forcing her views on the class.
People read these clickbait articles about Northeastern Liberal U and think that every college in America is some socialist indoctrination camp.

Also people can’t seem to grasp that you CAN still turn a Liberal Arts degree into a useful career. It’s harder, but those options are still out there:

At a state university, hell no. At an ivy league college, sure.

It depends. At a school like Princeton, everything except the engineering degrees receives a B.A. This includes fields like geology, economics, and math. If you get a liberal arts degree from a well-known, elite university, you will have plenty of good jobs to choose from. I have friends who majored in subjects like art history or Chinese at places like Penn, Williams, and Amherst who know work in brand management for F100 companies, investment banking, and management consulting.
If they wanted to get a liberal arts degree from a place that isn't viewed nationally as "elite" (e.g. LSU), I would make sure they had a plan to monetize that degree. A student who majored in political science or philosophy and learned how to critically read and write persuasively would be very well prepared for law school or a masters in public policy at a more prestigious school. But I would make sure they understood they would have very limited job prospects right out of undergrad and would likely need further schooling.

When I was in school the Foreign Service and various alphabet agencies heavily recruited liberal arts graduates at little old mediocre LSU. I knew one guy who went to work for the CIA, and another for NSA.

My family and 95% of the people I grew up with are Baptist rednecks and I never heard that once when deciding on a college and major
