id also like to have met my grandfather on my dads side

he died of a heart attack when my dad was in his mid 20s. my dad doesnt talk about him but from all accounts he seemed like an awesome and an interesting guy. he was in the 101st airborne during ww2 and liberated concentration camps and all of that stuff. he then came home and started a pretty successful lingerie business if you can believe that

My parents. They were killed in a car accident two weeks after my first birthday. I have no memory of them at all.

My grandfather died when I was 3. So while I did meet him, I have no memory of him. My mom says he loved spending time with me and watching old westerns and horror movies.

He was career Army. Joined the Navy to fight in WWII at 17 years old. Then moved to the Army and fought in Korea and Vietnam. I don't think he did any actual fighting in Vietnam. He was a Lt. Col and worked closely with Westmoreland I believe. He retired with 3 Purple Hearts and quite a few other awards.

In retirement he taught ROTC at Memphis State. He was the only teacher who flunked star player Larry Finch because he wouldn't go to class. He wouldn't budge and they formed a decent relationship until he died.

I would have really loved the chance to get to know him. He was fit as a fiddle but had diabetes and died of a heart attack in bed. Woke up and told my grandmother he was going and loved her. Then passed away.

It’s OK. Not having parents is all I’ve ever known so the concept of parents is foreign to me. I did have my maternal grandmother. She raised me and my brother until she died when I was 14. After that things got worse.

my grandfather's twin brother. He died in 1951 in the Korean War. I'm told he was unfortunately gunned down in front of my grandfather.

My great-great grandfather was a survivor of the Sultana in 1865. He lost his entire family and is credited with saving at least 30 lives.

I technically met my great grandfather but I was only a year old when he died. He was a farmer, rural mail carrier, fox hunter, and wrote a weekly humor column in the local paper. Everybody said he was quite a character.

I had one ancestor who was nearly killed at Vicksburg. A silver dollar in his pocket deflected the bullet. Another was a full blooded Choctaw. They would be interesting to talk to.

Sorta. We bounced around from place to place, I spent a little time homeless. Still managed to graduate high school though. I’m the end it turned out alright and I’ve had a good life. Still, I’d loved to have known my parents.

A great great grandfather on my Dads side. Was a riverboat gambler who didn't shy away from gun fights. Reputed to have been accomplished at both.

I've mentioned him before on here...but my great uncle. He died in France during WWII. They built a memorial for him in the town just outside of Paris, and there are pictures of him with one of the town kids riding on a US tank on one of the city streets. The kid grew up to become the mayor of the town.

My father's only brother, died at age 25 at Iwo Jima when his escort carrier was sunk by two kamikazes. The stories he could have told (survivor of Pearl Harbor, Coral Sea, Midway, & Savo Island)...
