I never knew my grandfather (mom's side), he died of Leukemia in 1942 while serving in the Army. I heard he was a very decent, caring, hardworking family man who loved his family more than anything. My mom kept his memory alive throughout her lifetime sharing memories and b&w pictures with all of us (my siblings). I would've loved to have met all of my deceased relatives, but my grandfather intrigues me the most. Probably because I heard the most about him growing up.

What about it you?

I suppose I'm fortunate that I've been able to meet all of my Grandparents.

My paternal Grandfather died when I was a senior in HS. I matured rather late in life, so I never really got to know him as a man. Wish I would have had more time with him.

Probably my older sister. Just wasn't the right time for mom and dad at that particular point. Luckily, they grew up and responsibly had 3 other children.

Great grandfather on my wife's side. He died before my wife and I met, but he was part of the 1st Infantry Division that landed on Omaha Beach. His wife is still alive and kicking in her 90's though

My great grandfather, so I could beat his arse for bringing home a French whore from WW2 and abandoning his family. Bitch probably didn’t even shave her armpits.

eta: what sucks is that’s the one line of my family that we can trace back to Ireland and also has a Revolutionary War veteran, but this pos fricked it all up... That line of the family was like Lt Dan’s except my people survived the Revolution, War of 1812, Civil War, and WW2. Not sure if we had anybody repping the stars and bars in WW1 though.

my grandpa on my mom's side. He was a radio man in the 101st airborne. Was in every major battle in the European Theater. went missing behind enemy lines for a few months. we have the letter that was sent to my great grandma that he was missing presumed dead. He died when my mom was 8, my grandma raised 6 children pretty much on her own. She was one of the toughest women i ever met, i can't imagine how tough my grandpa must have been

My Grandfather on my mother's side, who passed away 7 years before I came along.
"Popsie"....I have heard so much about him, I feel like I have always known him. Must have been a truly great man.

my multi great grandfather that was a General in the TX revolution. He was good buddies with Austin and Houston.

Funyn story, his brother was big in the political scene pre civil war, graduated law school at 18. Was an early candidate for running for president pre succession and also when the South was looking for a President. Well he some how got drunk and fell off a river boat and drowned.... Rumors it was a hit by other political figures.

Amen brother. My grandpa (which I knew) was 101st airborne during WW2. He jumped behind the beach. The shite that generation would do to earn an extra $15 a month.

my moms uncle was goerings guard during the nuremburg trials. he was widely believed to be the one who gave goering the cyanide. he apparently was friendly with goering and somewhere along the fringes of my family is one of his pens and gold watch. it was a scandal that was held over my moms family for a loooooooong time and he was only vindicated back in like 2005

i would have loved to hear from him what actually happened

Maternal grandfather, he died of lung cancer when I was four months old. He was in the air force in the Pacific during WWII, where he met my grandmother who was a nurse.

ETA: he also played receiver at CU Boulder.

My dad died about 24 days before I was born.

My grandfather (Dad's dad). I'm named after him and I've been told we are a lot alike.

He died of a heart attack when my dad was 17. I've read letters he wrote to my grandmother when he was away from home for work. He was a civil engineer and traveled the country building roads and bridges (we have pics of him working on Nicholson road when they first built it. His letters are the closest I'll ever get to knowing him.
